I recently had an experience occur that when the top of my jaw began to ache and tighten up on my left hand side my vision in that eye went double. Is this a common TMJ experience or is this just unique to me? I also notice that I have a lot of problems with focusing is this a common issue with TMJ? Any input would be appreciated.

Extremely eHealthy
i have had eye problems related to tmd in the past--so no its not just you---i would get your eyes checked any way just to rule and eye problem out. then tell your tmd doctor about it so that he can help you with it. the trigeminal nerve that effects vision is near the jaw so pressure from the condyle or swelling can effect vision

TMJ and Double Vision
I have been suffering from TMD for over 10 yrs now. I have had two open joint operatins, the last to reshape the condile after years of arthritic degeneration. Due to the yrs of trauma on the joint, I also had all the "soft Tissue" or rather scar tissue removed and had a graft from my hip transplanted into the joint to be used as the meniscus.

Needless to say I still suffer from incredible pain and headaches today. I have seen many Dr.'s across the U.S. and I have told them that when ever I get a headache, my Rt. eye drifts as if it were a lazy eye. And this has happened ever since I started having headaches, and every Dr. I have seen has not been able to give me a difinitive answer as to why this happens to me. I develop double vision, and that doesn't help the headache if you know what I mean.

I have seen eye Dr.'s, had too many MRI's, C-scans, and other tests to remember, but the only answer I get is that maybe it is being caused by pressure on trigeminal nerve, or one of the other optical nerves.

Sorry I can;t help with a diagnosis, but our cases are unique but rare. Hang in there!
