Q: TMJ and anxiety disorders
asked by: DoctorQuestion on March 29th, 2008
Please, Please, Please help me find some relief. I have been suffering for almost a year with what the Doctors say is TMJ but the pain is excruciating and I am at the oint that I can not take it anymore. I have been to all these doctors (ENT, GP, Dentist, TMJ Specialist, Chiropractor) and I am still in pain 24/7. I am a single Mom and I have to work and be bale to take of my child. I have spent way more money than I had already because the pain is unbearable but I still have no relief. I was in a very abusive marriage and I don't know if that could have caused this but if so it only adds insult tp injury because even though I was finally able to get away, he is still torturing me through this pain and suffering. I don't know where to turn or what to do but I have to do something because I can't continue to live like this. Please help!

One of the possible reasons for your TNJ-syndrome is anxiety. When all organic possibilities are excluded, the only possibility left is anxiety. It is likely that depression is the main reason for your migraine and TMJ. Your unsuccessful marriage also has contributed to your depressive condition. You may want to consult a psychiatrist about this. He may help you to overcome the emotional issues you are bothered with.
