Greetings everyone,

I started taking Yaz 1 week ago today; yesterday I woke up with a buzzing in my left ear that turned into a vibrating hum by evening, sounding like there is a phone off the hook in my head. It's only gotten worse today, so I contacted my physician and she called in a prescription for another type of birth control pills but I've gotten to thinking...

Back in 2005 I had one other experience with tinnitus and it happened around the time I was using the birth control "patch." At the time I didn't see the connection and stopped the patch due to excessive menstrual bleeding (the tinnitus faded away over the period of a couple months), but today I googled "birth control" and "tinnitus" and it seems the two can go hand-in-hand. I'm thinking birth control pills will NOT be an option to manage my long-standing Endometriosis. Has anyone else had a similar experience with tinnitus (ear ringing/roaring/buzzing) on birth control pills in general or Yaz and/or the Patch in particular?

Thanks!

Not especially ... but one thing that has helped me manage tinnitus is cleaning my sinuses. Perhaps there is a connection between ear ringing and BC pills but have you sought help from an ENT specialist?

Birth Control pills and ear disconfort.
Hello, Shala!!
That is so funny to see your post after all this time,I am on birth control for about a week - for my acne, and for the past 3 days I have been feeling awful like this buzzing clogged ears especially the left side, is driving me crazy and I feel like I am going deaf. I had tinutitus back in 2000 due to exessive work over the phone doing sells. But I didn't know birth control and tininutus suffers don't go well. I am glad that I read your post because I am gonna stop taking this pills and see if gets better.

Thanks,
My best.

I'm so happy you wrote this and it will probably take you another three years to find this post. I started BCP for HRT and didn't realize the side effects would take six months to show themselves. I got bloated, gassy, poor digestion, dizzy or had vertigo with clogged ears. I thought it was a flu bug until I came home from jogging two nights ago, popped the pill and puked. I stopped taking them and puked for days, got vertigo, couldn't stand and had a clogged left ear. It's a few days later and the nausea stopped but the ear and vertigo are still there. If I could drive, I would go to the doctor but I can hardly navigate through the house although each day it's getting easier. I'm going to bookmark this site and come back to let everyone know how long this ear problem lasts and if it's something more serious? My left ear is clogged and it's possible I have what Shala has??

Birth controll pill, clogged ears, ringing in ears and dizziness
Hi just realised that pills can cause my problems too. I started Microgynon 30 three months ago after I gave birth to my daughter. Two month ago the ringing in the ears started, My ears are also clogged. I experience dizziness, extreme tiredness, dream-like feeling. Doctors are really useless, they just want you out of their office as soon as possible. I can feel Ill from time to time too. I will stop taking the pill today, will let you know of any changes. I would like to hear about any changes on your side too... Hope this will get away! Good luck.

ENT figured it out
Just an FYI for anyone that comes across this post, I saw an ENT doctor and was diagnosed with Meniere's Disease, a build of up pressure in the inner ear triggered, in my case, by the hormones in the Yaz birth control pills. It can lead to progressive hearing loss and deafness, so if you're getting ringing/roaring/echoing/abnormally sensitive to noise in even just one ear and/or dizziness/vertigo while on birth control pills, stop the pill and get into an ENT. My ear pressure reversed to normal approx. 1 week after stopping Yaz and 1 days before my period came on (as we all know, periods are triggered by a drop in hormone levels). Hopefully yours will, too!

I have also learned to manage tinnitus by getting away from electrical appliances and deep breathing in a quiet room. I think meditation helps me tap into the aural senses in a deeper way so that the ringing becomes less bothersome and more part of my human experience.

I've been on Yaz for right at a year now. Everything was great in the beginning...the usual adjusting...ie. yeast problems. However, back in Jan of this year (2009)I started having A LOT of ear problems...eventually developed ringing in the ears and had to have tubes put in. I also started having blood pressure spikes, anxiety/panic attacks, depression/uncontrollable crying, mood swings, migraines, sinus problems, acne.....the list goes on and on. I just thought I was going crazy...went to every specialist known to man kind....nothing wrong. I finally started having female problems again...left and right one after another....decided to google YAZ and looked it up on WebMd. to find another lady on there at the same date range having ALL of the same problems I was....So as of 4 days ago I quit taking YAZ thus far nothings better...but I truly believe with given time it will....GOD BLESS ALL!!!

Have your symptoms improved by now, can you confirm your symptoms were due to the pills? I have many of your symptoms and they started after I started taking the birth control pill called microgynon 30. Wold be very thankful for an answer.

Hey everyone, my problem is a little different and im just trying to figure it out. About two years ago I started taking Loestrin24fe. I didnt notice any ringing while I was on the pill. But about five months ago I stopped taking the pill and about two weeks after I stopped taking the pill my ears started ringing. Ever since my ears have been ringing and its terrible. I cant even sit in a quiet room anymore. Im just trying to find a reason for this. I went to an ear doctor and he basically told me to ignore it. Great doctor huh?

Today ringing in my left ear started and am trying to figure out if it is from Loestrin24Fe. I am 44 and started this pill 31/2 weeks ago. Yesterday was a brown reminder pill and got my period and today I have ringing in my ears. Could drug interaction from other vitamin supplement cause ringing? Or maybe it's a type of cold or variation of Coxsackie virus (I think my kids has that recently)...?

I have been experiencing ringing in my ears for about 16 yrs now. It has progressively been getting worse. I have ringing in both of my ears and it literally makes me depressed. My doctor and I hadn't put two and two together, but I have done a lot of searching and am going to get off birth control all together. I have had NO luck with any type of birth control. I will get my tubes tied as I am 36 yrs old now and don't want any more children.

this is the same problem I have too. I did have a time for a week where I heard ringing and was prescribed ear drops and it went away a few days later. I started to get chest pains and numbness in my legs and I decided to get off the pill. Then a week later, the pain went away in my body but I then started to hear ringing in my right ear again but this time it was constantly. When I first experienced the ringing, it was a couple of days and only during the night but now its throughout the whole day.

Please someone help.

Loestrin 24 and Ministrin 24 May be Causing Tinnitus!
Hello all, I was previously taking Loestrin 24 for almost 2 years. When Loestrin 24 was discontinued, my gyno recommended that I start taking Ministrin 24 which is a bioequivlanet to Loestrin. Within 2 days of switching, I started having significant ringing in both my ears. It's extremely loud and high pitch. I noticed it started to impact my hearing, especially when I'm in a place with a lot of background noise. My boyfriend noticed that I was constantly asking him to repeat things. I noticed that I was having difficulty hearing people on the phone and when they whispered. I also was noticing I had to turn my music up louder in the car. I went to an audiologist who tested my hearing and said my hearing was normal. I also saw an ENT who said tinnitus (ringing in the ears) can be caused by stress, caffeine and alcohol. I didn't believe that this were the causes as my alcohol and caffeine consumption and stress levels have not changed at all. I am so happy I found this blog as I now think my birth control is the culprit. My only question now is, did the ringing start because I stopped the Loestrin or did the ringing start because I switched to the Ministrin? I'm going to go off my birth control next week and see if the ringing goes away. Thank you all for sharing! -Amanda
