I am following a treatment to cure my tinnitus. The cause of it is unknown. But as far as I know I started hearing the ringing in my right ear when I did a syringing for Wax removal. After some time the ringing subsided but it was still there. I went to see an ENT specialist who removed any remaining earwax and gave some medication because he found that I had some ear inflammation because of rough usage of cotton ear bud. However it had little effect on the ringing noise. So the ENT specialist requested me to do an audiology test which I did. The result showed that I had no hearing loss and both my ears were ok.The ENT specialist suspected that it might be related to TMJ. He did a simple test by putting his fingers in both ears and asked to do a jaw movement. We could hear a clear clicking noise. He also asked me to clench my teeth and to see if there was any change in the level of tinnitus. This increased my tinnitus. So he refered me to a dentist. The dentist confirmed that I had TMJ as he saw there was extensive tooth grinding happening. I was then asked to do an Xray. The latter showed some abnormal tooth on the right side which somehow never came out.The dentist told me that a surgery will need be carried out by an Oral Surgeon but that could be done at a later period. He then provided me with a mouthguard (upper jaw)built as per my jaw size. Today is my second day that I have started using same. I am getting used to it. However, I would like to know how effective will be the mouthguard on treating my tinnitus? My dentist told me that it will require at least 6 months treatment before seeing any sign of improvement.

Hi
My tinnitus gets louder by jutting out my jaw. I know that my tinnitus is a physical issue involving nerves and my lower jaw. I will try a mouthguard to see if that helps. Does anyone have a treatment that has worked to cure tinnitus? There are so many con artists out there trying to sell a remedy while we suffer through this. any thought would be appreciated.
