Q: Tight vagina and hard cervix

kind of an odd question... but id like to know if anyone else has experienced a tight, swollen feeling vagina in their first trimester. my boyfriend loves it, but it makes sex rather uncomfortable for me most of the time.

also, my cervix went from being high and soft at 9 weeks to kind of high and very hard. the opening also is pointing towards the back wall (facing my colon) instead of facing down towards the opening of my vagina. ive noticed my cervix changes a lot, but its been like this for a little while now.

has anyone else experienced anything like this..? and if so.. is it a cause for alarm? everytime i call my doc about my cervix they get upset with me and tell me to stop putting my fingers up there cuz it can cause an infection. ive been checking my cervix for a long time and have never had an infection =P stupid doctors. so i havent gotten any answers from them.

I currently have the same concern, only my cervix has never been soft. Although it has been quite high. I am just over 10 weeks pregnant and I have to supplement w/ progesterone at night and when I inserted the medication I noticed my cervix was substantially lower but still hard. I am going to call my doctor tomorrow. If you have gotten any addtl info let me know otherwise I will post what my doctor says tomorrow.

thanks for your reply. my doctor wasnt much help when i called a few weeks ago. i have a prenatal checkup tomorrow and am going to hound her about it. i did notice yesterday it started to get soft again, but i also started spotting yesterday.. so i dont know. if i find out anything tomorrow ill let you know, too. hopefully both of our doctors say its nothing to worry about!

Hi chrisseeg- My doctor did have me come in to to check my cervix just to be safe and everything was fine. Hopefully you will find out the same!!!

Ok the tightness of your vagina is most in part due to pregnancy...go hormones Smile

! As far as your cervix being "high and hard", the position of your uterus can affect how far up your cervix feels and your cervix will become "harder"-actually "tougher" and that is due to hormones and the cervix being ready to sustain a pregnancy. It will start to soften in your third trimester to prepare for labor and delivery. Best of luck Smile

motherofhighspritedones: i think i just need to talk with my doc about this during my appt tomorrow. i can feel when my cervix is changing. it goes from low and hard to high and soft. when i had my pap and 1st prenatal appt it was low and hard. then a week later it was high and soft. then for the next 3 weeks it was lower and hard and pointing to the side. then yesterday i noticed it was back to being high and soft. i am just confused haha. its like its changing to reflect my cervical changes if i was still menstruating/ovulating. i also seem to bleed/spot when my cervix changes to high and soft. not a lot, but enough that i noticed it when i wiped yesterday. i am also thinking this may have to do with me having a retroverted uterus. i dont know. =oD if i find out anything tomorrow, ill post it on thursday. thanks for your reply. =)

I don't know about anyone else but this is my 4th pregnancy and any internal exam can cause some spotting after the cervix has been checked.

Some advice?

Maybe stop giving yourself a exam and self diagonosing and listen to your Dr. Im sure your not the only pregnant person they have seen.

Your body will change as well as your cervix during pregnancy and worring about this is causing undue stress on your body and unborn child.

mum2four: my question wasnt about spotting after examing my cervix. ive never had spotting after checking my cervix. and i wasnt self diagnosing anything. im confused as to why you said both of those things. i posted my QUESTION because i didnt know if it was normal or not. i thought maybe someone would have some insight into a pregnant womans changing body. read the question/post before replying, please.

bstein: my doctor told me the cervix changes is just based off of hormonal changes (like how your cervix changes during your menstrual cycle). she said not to become worried unless you notice it has started to get really soft and opening because that would mean you have an incompetent cervix. my doc didnt check my cervix when i was there, but going off of what i told her she also said everything is fine. =)

Glad to hear it! Yay hormones lol! As far as cervical bleeding, yeah, the cervix is really sensitive while you are pregnant. The increased blood flow to your uterus can make it more prone to bleeds. Go gentle with the sex, and by that I mean, no rough cervical punches lol. And if it is uncomfortably tight, use a bit of lube.
