I am also experiencing a feeling of off balance when standing, walking or sitting. I never actually fall over but feel like i'm going to. I sometimes i feel like i am unable to walk in a straight line. My neck muscles are tight more so on the left and my shoulders. I do suffer from depression and anxiety and take medication for this. I have recently increased my medication from 25mg right up to 200mg on my doctors advice. I have been taking this for a long time but not this level of dosage. I have visited an oesteopath and had a few treatments. He seems to think i have a problem with my thoracic spine and that i don't have the correct posture when sitting at my desk at work. I asked him if this feeling of offbalance was connected to my neck problem and he said it can be as your ear is connected to your neck and controls balance. I don't know if it is my medication causing this feeling or my neck/shoulder problem. I have always had neck and shoulder tightness and this off balance feeling however it seems worse at present. Has anyone else had this feeling and if so had any treatment for it that worked.

Seriously RWARBY1970, you seem to have the exact same symptoms I have. My Osteopath thought it was Labrynthitis, but prednisone didn't fix me, so its not that. CT scans and blood work show all normal. I have been feeling like I am walking on a dock for 3 months straight and nothing seems to make any difference. The only thing that slightly helped was acupuncture. That made the disorientation a little better. I too have had bad anxiety for at least 10 years, but refuse to ever take pills again for it. What did you find helped you after all? My head and neck are really tense and massages just put a band-aid on for a minute, and multiple chiropractic treatments have not helped as far as I can tell.

Off balance
I have been feeling off balance and
Drained and tired with no energy, eyes strain and foggy feeling since April
Of 2011. I have had brain mri's ears checked, eyes checked, blood work
Done. All came back fine. 2 chiropractors think it has to do with my Atlas
Bone in my neck being out of alignment??? Does this sound familiar to
Anyone else out there??? I am sooo frustrated with feeling this way
I can't take it much longer!!!

Yes I have the same issue, i'm feeling dizzy every morning between 9-12pm and it goes off in afternoons and evenings. And some times also even if I'm anxious, it will strike in. It always come with neck pain/strain behind at the shoulder area, more on the left side radiating down to my left upper arm. The pain will goes away and come back and will travel to different side of my shoulders. When this happened, I will sense there's a tightness/tense at the back of my head, like someone putting a brick there. That's where the spinning comes, slight nausea with fast heartbeat. It has been like this for 2 months now. And I have been stress out due to this, going through the internet trying to understand what is going wrong with me. Few months back, I've gone through some really stressful event in my life and think that this might could have triggered the problem. I've had most of the symptoms listed in the anxiety disorder in the early months (heartburn,GERD,burning tongue, flushes, sunburn sensation and even lump in the throat(Globus) for nearly 2 months). I've done my blood test and came back ok. Now, my biggest concern is this, and am waiting for it to go away. At least it's a relief to hear that there are people in the same boat as I do and I'm not alone in this. Smile

I have had these same symptoms for years now, off and on. I have had every test done and everything looks normal. At more stressful times in my life, these symptoms are triggered even more, but I DO NOT think it is just from stress.(just a trigger). My symptoms have not gotten worse over the years, so I am convinced it has to do with my neck. I have neck tightness and soreness often and it throws everything off . I feel really strange, as it affects my balance, energy, thinking, and mood. It is Terrible, but it doesn't last all day every day. I do neck strengthening exercises and massage techniques, but it never fully goes away. It Is such a terrible thing to experience because you feel so out of it and weird. I tell my husband I would rather deal with many other symptoms than these !

I have felt the same way since Nov 2011. I have been put on Allergy meds, antibiotics, seen an ENT got put on Nasonex! Nothing has really helped! I went to a chiropractor and got some adjustments that worked, for about a week. My next thing to do is blood tests. I have been on anxiety medication for years now, and am not sure if it has anything to do with anxiety. Its a wierd and frustrating feeling, but I have a hunch that it does have to do with sleeping or posture. I am practically on computer 24/7. If my blood tests are good, I will keep going to the chiropractor! Please continue posting any successes you may have!

I've had this too, muscle tightness in the neck and jaw, tingly legs and arms, dizzy. I read on another site that it could be TMJ. I've gone to the doc and they found nothing. I heard acupuncture helps, but i made a chiro appt- we'll see what happens... Wish this would just go away!

Have you been tested for Lyme disease? Google the symptoms of Lyme. You might be surprised to find yours are on the list. If you want to be tested for Lyme disease, then you should ask your doctor to order a Western Blot blood test (most doctors order an ELISA test, but this is highly insensitive and misses true Lyme infections about 50% of the time).

I have suffered with these same symptoms for years...
I have suffered with these same symptoms for years, brought on by divorce and extreme stress and anxiety. It's important to relax - try Yoga, massage, a visit to the chiropractor. Always try to get at least 8 to 9 hours of sleep. That makes a big difference. Hydrate well - we live in a constant state of dehydration. Eat nutritious, whole foods and take supplements - a good multi-vitamin, Vitamin D3. Sometimes just applying heat before you go to sleep is helpful. Allow your hot shower to fall on that part of the neck which is stiff, and try to hold it there for several minutes. Realize what you can control and let go of what you can't. Try music, scented candles, a dark room, lulling voices like the narration of the travel shows on PBS (buy the DVD). We are exposed to so many things which create stress in our lives - you must find ways to mitigate it, or it will take its physical toll. Lean on folks you trust and don't try to do it all yourself. Find a life partner who affirms and values you. Turn to God.

Neck tightening, head shakes (tremors), twisting and Dizziness
Just wanted to let Tracileelyn and other that these symptoms could be signs of cervical dystonia. I too had neck tightening, feeling off-balance, difficulty holding my head up and still, and head tremors. It took me 3 years to get a diagnosis of cervical dystonia (also called spasmodic torticollis). I had finally found my way to a movement disorder clinic of neurologists who knew immediately what my symptoms were. See here for more information: http://www.dystonia-foundation.org/pages/c ervical_dystonia_more_info/46.php

Note - Don't panic if you just have basic stress and neck strain, you probably don't have dystonia.

I've had a lot of tension in both my shoulders and my neck. I feel and constantly catch myself tensing up; especially at work. Although I am in front of a computer sometimes, we were standing up in a retail environment, walking around, moving up and down, back and forth, left and right. These movements exacerbate the headache and nausea that accompany the pain in my neck.

I have had blood tests done, tests at the doctors office and my vitals and everything else look good. Now I am waiting for my insurance to preauthorize an MRI to make sure nothing is wrong inside my head. We don't expect to find anything, but maybe the neck will show what's going on.

In any case, it is frustrating and interfering with my life. I have become less active, felt more pain and have not been able to work as well or function without getting dizziness and headaches. I am on an IBUProfen diet of 1-2 pills a day, which helps sometimes but only to take the edge off.

Hoping to come up with some answers here soon.

I have a lot of tightness and sometimes pain in my neck, shoulders and upper back. I have a lot of crunching sounds when I rotate my neck and shoulders trying to ease the pain. Sometimes I sort of shake my head and get a pop in one spot in my neck that gives me temporary relief until the pressure builds up there again. I have really been struggling with the dizziness and vertigo the last few days. I feel like I'm going to fall over, (but I never do), sometimes I have nausea, and it feels as those I'm not seeing things quite right, kind of like my eyes are not staying still and focused on whatever I'm trying to read. I think that the way I sleep may be the problem because I quite often wake up during the night with a stiff and sore neck. I have tried different pillows and nothing seems to help for long. These attacks make my life miserable and cause me even more anxiety. As anyone suffering from anxiety knows, we tend to over worry about every symptom we have and think its something terrible.

Hi, these are all very interesting to me, the symptoms seem very similar to mine. Mine are definitely worse if stressed, out of interest does anyone else find it bad whilst trying to walk with a drink?

I get these exact same symptoms of unbalance when walking and tiredness especially in the morning. These symptoms seem to get worst when I am walking in a supermarket or shopping centre and or when I wake up with an extra stiff neck.
I suspect it's my neck as some time back just prior to starting weight training I seemed to be okay but after one week at the gym all of a sudden I started to feel extremely exhusted and unbalanced. This exhusted feeling was not right as I am generally fit and healthy so have put it down to re-hurting my upper spine after throwing it out whilst at my compter desk which was bizzare 12 months prior.
All I know is that this unbalalnce feeling does not go away and makes me feel terrible some days.
I certainly feel for you guy's as these symptoms really suck.

I have the same issue. The doctors could not find anything for a year. It turns out my eyes are vertically missaligned causing the dissiness and vertigo. It was a simple test where they put binnoculars and you and you tell them whe two objects are lined up. The treatment prism classes to balance out the missalignment. Reduced my sysmptoms by 95 percent. The missalignment also makes the body try to copensate causing extreme fatigue, neck tilt, neck painn migraines symptoms, anxiety and can compromise the nervouse system and immune system. Once the misalignment is fixed chiropractor and eating less inflmitory foods ie sugar and wheat also have helped me. Go see an optomistrista and check out vision specialists of michigan website they are in Birminham and specilize in this condition. Could be an easy fix for an awful condition.

After reading all these comments I think that i am suffering from Anxiety. My neck and shoulders are very tense and i feel off balance all the time. Like the muscles are pulling my head to one side or the other. I had got whiplash from a car accident in '95, and I feel that, it adds to the issue. Maybe a pinched nerve? I hope that i can de-stress soon and get rid of this. It hasn't been this bad in a long time. A comment above said that he was tested for Labrynthitis. I did have that one time, in '01, but haven't since. I know one thing for sure, this is quite annoying! grrr....
