I had a tia 1 year and 4 months ago. Doctor put me on plavix and said most people are usually on it a year. I asked doctor two months ago if I could go off now. He said no I want to keep you on it. I went to another doctor who sent me to a neurologist for recomendation on going off. The neurologist said once on plavix always on plavix. I am so upset My first doctor lied to me? I bruise very easily and even with insurance it's not cheap. I was going to go off on my own but with all the talk on rebound effects of going off plavix and having a stroke or heart attack, it scares me. Has anyone else just gone off plavix and had any problems?

If you are interested in stopping this treatment, try tapering Plavix instead of stopping it abruptly, or increase the dose of aspirin during the first 90 days after stopping Plavix, to reduce the rebound effect (possible clots formation).
Acute thrombotic (clots) complications are not immediate and usually follow interruption of aspirin or Plavix therapy after a mean delay of 8–25 days.
