Just a bit of history for anyone reading...I am 23 yo female, and I contracted HSV-1 about two years ago from an ex partner. My first outbreak was very nasty and extremely painful that lasted for a good 3-4 weeks and obviously I am petrified of that happening again! However, I haven't had a recurrent outbreak since (almost two years now) but I can't really remember the initial signs of having a herpes outbreak. My memory of it is a bit of a blur but I do recall having a bit of a thrush problem at the very start? I was very prone to thrush before I had my first herpes outbreak but haven't really had it since the outbreak, things have been reasonably well in order. However, I am now suffering from what I think is thrush? To describe without TMI (!), the area down below is really red and inflamed and is starting to get quite painful and uncomfortable. I have also noticed that it feels like a rash, there are lots of small bumps that I can feel but can't really see clearly and I was wondering is this a common symptom of thrush or could it be an early warning sign of another outbreak? Yeah like I said, my memory is vague and just wondering if someone could give me someperspective on this?

Cheers.

Thrush is yeast infection and has nothing with the herpes infection which is a viral infection. Typical for herpes outbreak is transformation of the lesions. At the beginning there are red bums that turn in to vesicles and then erosions. Erosions get covered with crusts and finally the crusts disappear in 2-3 weeks. Lesions are usually itching, burning and painful. Swollen inguinal lymph glands can be also present.
Thrush lesions are red and itching covered with white drips. There are vaginal discharge and very itching urination. There is no evolution of the lesions.
Thrush can be efficiently treated with local anti-yeast suppositories in 3 days. Herpes needs longer treatment.
You should visit your gynecologist about your problem.
