Bad breath can often be the first sign of a disease. But how do doctors define bad breath and what are the major causes of bad breath?...
Did you know that bad breath can be associated with sinus problems? Learn more about the common (and unfamiliar) causes of bad breath here....
Did you know that symptoms of bad breath depend upon medical cause? More here on major causes and related symptoms of bad breath...plus when to seek help....

Hi,

I ended up posting this in a reply to someone else while I was still looking for anyone who had experienced anything similar, but I can't find anything at all so now I'm posting it here...

I've had a cold for the last week or so, and since a couple of days ago the area around my upper right wisdom tooth (which sticks out at a funny angle, but has done for the last few years since it came out) feels odd. It sort of throbs and hurts if I step too heavily when walking, or shake something in my hand etc... but even just going from lying down to sitting up, and sitting to standing up etc seems to cause it too, even if done very slowly and smoothly (so maybe changes in blood pressure or something similar?)

I can't tell where exactly it's coming from, it may be the wisdom tooth or one of the teeth further forward from it, or just the general area. The teeth themselves don't hurt when touching them etc, it's kind of right up in the gums and in the side of my face (although there's no visible swelling or anything). I'm wondering if it might be some kind of secondary infection from the cold. The cold also seems to have stopped improving since around the same day this started, my cold symptoms were changing and getting worse and then better each day before then, but since then they seem to have just stayed about the same.

Does anyone have any idea what these symptoms might indicate? And might antibiotics help?

I can't find anything or anyone with similar symptoms online at all, with it being caused by moving around but no pain from touching the teeth themselves at all, so any help at all would be much appreciated.

Could be the pressure from the sinuses being full.

If it doesn't go away after yoru cold is gone you will want to have your dentist take an x-ray to make sure the wisdom tooth isn't getting an infection around the root (abscess).

This is why we almost always recommend getting wisdom teeth out - at some point, most are going to be a problem and its easier to get them out younger, than older. Just fyi Smile

Yeah... I went to the doctor a few days ago, and when I spoke to him on the phone first, he thought it was probably sinusitis that was causing it... but after he examined me, he said my sinuses were completely clear. So he didn't give me anything anyway, just said to take Paracetamol and Ibuprofen... I didn't bother with the Paracetamol because it wasn't that painful or anything, but I did get some Ibuprofen because that's actually supposed to help with inflammation isn't it, so I thought it might actually help with whatever it is... it seems to have worked anyway (or it's just got better by itself), because my cold is almost completely gone now and whatever was going on with my teeth/gums seems to have calmed down... I haven't taken any Ibuprofen for a couple of days now and the stuff I described in my original post above doesn't seem to be happening anymore Smile

I think I probably do need to find a dentist and get that tooth sorted out somehow anyway though, because it still feels a bit odd when I open my mouth right up etc... and sometimes there's even a sort of almost cracking sort of noise from my jaw when I do that... but it was already like that before I think, and probably has been for a while, it's just got worse very gradually over the last couple of years I think so I didn't really notice it properly before.

Thank you Smile
