I sing in a heavy metal band and basically scream into the microphone. A couple weeks ago my throat started to hurt and felt strained. I skipped a week of band practice, but still sang in the car and house. Went to band practice again yesterday- It came back. It's been strained for over 24 hours now, worse than before. It hurts to talk, feels like my throat is swelled up, my neck muscles are tight, feels like there is a lump in my throat, and at times, i feel like i have to concentrate to breathe. Anybody have a way to treat this or have any idea what it is?

yep, your beating the hell out of your throat without warming up first. It's like being a marathon runner who doesn't bother to warm up. You'll feel the pain. Try tea, pref decaf, with lemon and honey to relax your throat, and see a vocal coach at least long enough to learn a couple of warm up exersises. Don't worry, they're not gonna try and make you sing like Bon Jovi. Even the legendary Hetfield warms up before screaming his guts out.
