I was wondering if a patient could display thought disorder and knight's-move thinking whilst also displaying auditory hallucinations and delusions?

I read that to be diagnosed with paranoid schizophrenia, he would have delusions or hallucinations but NO thought disorder.

My understanding is that you may experience both. There may be an overlap of symptoms from one type of schizophrenia to another. The brain is a complex organ and does not always present symptoms of a disorder in a text book fashion. A psychiatrist would be able to help sort out what is going on.

Thank you for the reply. Just trying to understand a friend a little more. Is he aware of his symptoms? Is he aware that his speech wasn't making any sense?

I sometimes get disorganized speech but luckily it isn't all the time. Most of the time I'm fine. Sometimes it gets so bad though that it turns into "word salad" which is the most severe form of thought disorder. According to the doctors I don't have paranoid schizophrenia but rather well either undifferentiated schizophrenia or schizoaffective disorder. I basically have something from each category of symptoms. I even go catatonic at times!
