I went to the hospital to get records and x-rays from a car wreck a year ago, for my collarbone, but upon reading all of the records, the first Emergency Room visit and X-rays i read this

"Clinical Data: Trauma

Report:
Multiple views were generated. The open-mouth view on the patient shows a slight discrepancy in the space between the dens and the c1 level masses. The Lateral masses of c1 and c2, however, do align appropriate, and i believe the slight discrepancy of this space relates to a slight degree of rotation and the fact the patient does appear to have a scoliosis of the thoracic spine convex to the right which is in fact significant.

Impression: slight discrepancy of the Atlantodental space is likely related to a slight degree of rotation for the X-ray and the fact that the patient has Thoracic Scoliosis. This is not likely to reflect Atlantoaxial Subluxation. "

here are the links to the X-rays

Now for my questions:
1. Could this have been caused by my car wreck?
2. How bad is this?
3. How is its treated?
4. Will this worsen?

p.s I've been tested for scoliosis in the best from school, and military and passed.

if the x rays where taken around the time of your accident its extremely unlikely that the car accident caused your scoliosis as the large degree of curvature that you have would have developed over a long period of time it may have worsened your scoliosis though

its not good it depends on your age with adult onset scoliosis because the scoliosis developed after skeletal maturity your scoliosis should not develop as fast or as bad as adolescent scoliosis still its possible that you will suffer from degenerative disease of the spine earlier in life and to a greater extent than someone with a normal spine a long with stiffness and pain

braces, exercises, osteopathic, or chiropractic manipulation who ever you choose make sure they are of the highest quality

possibly yes again with adult onset scoliosis it tends to stop or slow once it has reached a certain degree of curvature

can i ask how old are you also doctors do not label small degrees of sideways curvature as scoliosis though these curves tend to be progressive IE they worsen

I'll be 21 next month, back in 2003, and 2005 i was test by the school (running fingers down the back) and came up neg, and in 2006 i was tested by the military (they used some metal thing) and came up neg, early 2006 i was in a car wreck (side on) cracked rib, late 2006 in another wreck (hit in near, and became friends with the air bag) and lastly in 2008 rolled my car twice and broke my collar bone (when those xrays were taken)

boy you have been in yor share of car accidents i would rekon that the tests you had for scoliois would have picked it up if you had a fair degree of scoliois so its a fair bet u developed it after your car crashes sounds like they were fairly traumatic this could have easily kick started the the developement of your condition

that's really difficult to say you should aim to stop further progression or reverse your scoliosis again make sure the people who treat you are good

scoliosis
Hi there

I am an Australian Kinesiologist/sports therapist
The first thing you need to realise about scoliosis and sacroiliac conditions is that, although the X-rays show bones out of alignment the actual cause is muscular. It is muscles that hold up the spine. From the small rotary muscles (rotatores longus and Brevis) to the large ones like the latissimus dorsi, trapezius (upper, middle and lower) and gluteals, to name a few.
If the lat. dorsi foreshortens for one reason or the other it pulls the whole thoracic section of the spine lateral. If the neck flexors and extensors on the right fore shorten it creates a lateral bend, or flexion.
So the problem is NOT the spine but the muscles supporting it. In your case, the lat.dorsi on the right is malfunctioning, causing it to forshorten. This muscle relates to the pancreas energetically and often goes "out" when there are sugar problems present, leading to spinal misalignments at T8 level.
Sugar problems like diabetes and hyper or hypoglycemia are often caused by the sugars in dairy products (lactose) As these sugars need an enzyme called lactase to be digested, and since most of us stop the production of this enzyme after we are weaned, lactose intolerance is the result. Insulin, produced by the pancreatic glands called islets of Langerhans, is ONLY EFFECTIVE WITH DIGESTED SUGARS. This leads to diabetes 2. The other scenario is allegy to the proteins in milk.
Lots of people sre allergic to both the sugars and protein. In an allergic response, instead of the digestive system, the immune system is activated. This means that the islets are NOT getting the signal from the brain, the master computer, to secrete insulin.
It is said that the pancreas is faulty in that scenario although it is the brain that hasn't recognised food as food but, rather as a foreign invasion and has activated the fight or flight part of the brain to prepare for the battle.
I would suggest you see a doctor and be tested for sugar problems, and then see a chiropractor versed in Applied Kinesiology (AK) and have your spinal issues seen to.
In the meantime, avoid dairy like the plague.
