My docotr has done an internal ultra sound, says all looks ok except I have a thickened lining in the uterus. I was under the impression this happens when you have gone thru the change. Now he wants to do a biopsy. Is this really needed?

Hello sonia22, I too did a vaginal ultrasound and found that I have a thick endometrial layer. I will find out more info at my doctors appt. next week Friday as far as how thick it is, if its cancerous etc. I had a question for you though. My doctor says that I am not ovulating because I have a thick endometrial layer which makes it harder to conceive. So why is your Dr. suggesting for you to conceive asap? How can you conceive with a thick endometrial layer?

Endometrial thickness
I have 2 healthy beautiful children 10 & 11 years old that I conceived with no problems at all. I just found out that I have a thick endometrial layer on my ovaries, which I think is because of me being overweight. I was not overweight when I conceived both my children. My husband and I been trying for 9 years to conceive again with no luck. My obgyn says shes going to help me to conceive. I dont know my endometrial thickness yet. I will find out this Friday at my appt. What kind of medication did the doctor put you on and why if you dont mind me asking. I will keep in touch with you and let you know the outcome of my appt. Maybe we can help eachother that way. I look forward to talking to you soon Smile

How did everything turn out Moggie? I really hope and pray everything turn out ok. Im going to have a D&C done due to the same thing and Im pretty scared myself. I've had cancer once before so I am praying I don't have cancer again. Im supposed to have a uterine ablation in which they will burn the walls of my uterus. Has anyone had that done? Anyone who has I would really appreciate if you share your experience and if it was the right decision for you. Thank you.

lining of uterus
I am 44 and went in for a consult to have an ablation. They done the sonogram and found that my lining was thickened and had a 5.3cm cyst on my left ovary. Went for a follow up sono and I asked this time what "normal" was...sono tech said 1mm was norm...mine was 14mm. The cyst is gone but I am scheduled to have hysterectomy on Dec 22. I no longer need that part of my body and hope all will be ok after surgery. I hope all goes well with you.

thickness of the uterus
I am 41 and in for my yearly gyn check up on Monday while my dr was doing the pelvic exam he found something and sent me for a vaginal ultrasound. Went in for the follow up and he told me what he found was a cyst he also told me that the lining of my uterus was thick don't know how thick. He asked me about my periods if they were heavy. Which I didn't think they were I have a normal cycle during the first 2-3 days i might change the pad maybe 2-3 times dialy and i dont spot in between my cycles. Also my period last less than a week so I didn't think this would be heavy. He said he wanted to send me for a hypetstory D&C i am scared to death because he thru so much at me like cancer, hormonal etc.....

Endometrial biopsy
Hi! Was wondering how everything turned out? I went to my doctor to see if
I was a candidate for an ablation. (45) year old mother of 4 and have been spotting with old blood for about 5 days after every period for quite awhile now. Was also told my lining was thick 17mm and he did an endometrial biopsy just the other day. Will get results back in about a week. My periods like yours have npbeen clockwork. Really heavy bleeding for about 2 days then 2really light days. I'm also worried about cancer and was curious what your results were. Take care!

Extremely eHealthy
a basic thought;
Cancers of the uterus are diagnosed by endometrial biopsy, D&C, hysteroscopy and sometimes only after hysterectomy. It is fortunate that uterine cancers bleed early so symptoms are early and if the bleeding is not ignored, diagnosis is early. Three-fourths of all uterine cancers are diagnosed at an early stage. Of these about three-fourths are of favorable grade. This is why the number of deaths from uterine cancer is low even though it is the most frequently diagnosed gynecologic cancer.
best 2u all

Hey Everyone.
I'm 22 and 8w2d pregnant today. I wanted to share how my Dr. app. went today b/c i haven't been able to stop crying since i left this morning. Dr. says that since my 5 week visit with him my uterus lining has not changed a bit but it's 'excessively' thick (did not give me a #)he refereed me to a MFM High Risk Dr. today b/c he needs a second opinion on the lining and there are not cystic spaces appearing. I try finding information on this but the sites all end up taking me to Cancer sites and I cant bare to read another one b/c they are so scary. They can not do a biopsy now b/c of the pregnancy. The baby is also growing in the lower cavity of the uterus he says this is very odd to him. :,( he also said it could be nothing at all which is so hard to believe and be positive about. I had an IUD removed last year to try for our 2nd baby but got 2 periods the while year that last 4-5 weeks... So this could also be a contributing factor to the thicker lining. Thanks for reading Smile

hope you all are well bless you

thick uterus lining
Hi Everyone,

I am 27 and trying to get pregnant for about 9 month now without any luck. My period is 20 days late now so I went to see my GP who sent me to have an ultrasound and an internal one as well. I had them yesterday and the lady told me that I have a thick lining on my uterus. Could be because my period is about to arrive, or I could be pregnant she just couldn't see it because it is ealy. I did two test two weeks ago, negative. She suggested to do another one in a week, but if its negative and I still don't have my period I have to go back. They were checking out my ovaries, because I have right sided pain for a while now, but everything seems fine. My question is, can the thick lining can cause anything, so I won't get pregnant and what else can cause the right sided pain? (I had my appendix removed 6 weeks ago)
Thank you ladies!

Thick Lining
Hello I have a thick lining on my uterus and I got a biopsy and the results were negative. I do have a cyst on my right ovary. Ive only had 2 periods in 2 years. I cant get in birth control because of my fatty liver. Im 35 yrs and have had 2 children as soon as I started birth control. I conceived right away. It was pretty crazy. I had my appendix removed right after my last child I had edema, gestational diabetes, poly-hydroamnios and was in bedrest for the last 4 weeks of my pregrancy and was induced 2.5 weeks early. I had a very healthy baby but now my body feels like its deteriorating. Last my ob said to go see an internal dr. She said since I have had to many health issues since baby I need to find what is root cause..maybe its because Im overweight? anyone else had same issues? Im going to start a new lifestyle in change in my diet no dairy products and no meats for 30 days and see if it changes anything.

thick wall: scared
I am 35 and the mother of 3 kids. I went in to the Dr b/c my periods were extremely painful and I was discharging huge golf ball size clots. They are always on time and last for 5 days just as normal. They did blood tests and pelvic ultrasounds, found cycts (didn't say where) and that my wall is too thick (didn't give me a number) I am really scared as my mother went through the same thing and she had uterian cancer and didn't make it.

A mess
Hi all, this is my first post about my issues. I will start at the beginning. I have four children, easily conceived, normal periods throughout. About a year after my youngest was born my periods became painful, stopping mid week then returning with clots for several days. Went to dr, referred to Gynocologist who suggested a mirena. They inserted it under general anasthetic as they wanted to take samples of my uterus. I assume they were clear as nothing more was said. I continued to bleed for the next 9 months with pain. Tried unsuccessfully to get the mirena removed, drs said it was normal to experience bleeding. I then moved countries and it is nearly a year since I had mirena inserted. I found a new dr and she ordered an ultrasound. I didn't think much of it so I took about 4 weeks to go back for results. Now I wish I had gone sooner as dr tells me I have hyperplasia ( thickening ). I have to wait till the 23/5 for a Gynocologist appointment. I have a history of uterine cancer, my maternal aunt died from it at my age but this was 30 years ago. I am a mess, terrified, a walking fruit cake at the moment. What I want to know from others is, is it usual to have to wait to be seen by a specialist, I just want this "thing" gone. My dr says they will do a d&c then test it. But all this waiting is killing me, everything I read leads to cancer. I'm hoping it is the mirena causing this. I have also begun lactating and have terrible acne, I am moody, hormonal and basically just a blubbering mess. My body thinks its pregnant, but there is no chance of that. Ok nice to get it off my chest. Fingers crossed for a positive outcome.

vaginal biopsy
I'm 30 years old, no children. Recently had gallbladder removed, and now seeing an ob/gyn initially so that she could help my husband and I have our first child. However, the appointment didn't go like I expected. I went in today for blood work and ultrasounds. I was told I have a tiny cyst on my right ovary. I have to go back to the doctor in 2 weeks for a biopsy because the lining is very thick. They said it could be cancer, and that there is a chance that I may never be able to have a child. This is depressing me somewhat terribly.

Hi there, thought I may have been the only one still looking at this forum. Social butterfly, I'm feeling for you. What I found weird about your post was that I also had my gallbladder removed a few years back and wonder if some things are linked, because they say if you have high oestrogen (sp?) levels it can make you prone to gallstones. I also had a small cyst on one of my ovaries, discovered during an ultrasound during one of my pregnancies. During my c section they found it to be smaller and of no concern so I wouldn't worry to much about the cyst, most of the time it seems to be nothing. So in regard to the thickening. I had surgery yesterday to remove the mirena, I also had a d and c, hysteroscopy and they are doing biopsies on the thickening. They told me that if it looked like anything other than just lot of blood they would have told me straight away. I have to wait a week or two for results but I'm feeling pretty positive. I'm wondering now if some people are just prone to having the thickening. My Gynocologist said if it keeps reoccurring and it is not cancer that they may look at hysterectomy later on down the track. Do you mind if I ask why you are needing help to conceive? Is it just that you have been trying for a long time? Just may be that you need a d and c. Anyway I know how scary it is, I'm still a bit freaked, feel 100x better after having mirena out, don't let anyone ever talk you into having one of those.
