It has been almost 3 weeks since my shoulder surgery for a labral tear. I also had bone spurs removed. While I expected there to be some pain involved I am wondering if the sharp pains I still have when moving my shoulder a certain way are normal. I am out of the sling unless I am out in public but pretty much keep my arm at my side. However, I can hardly sleep because I can't get comfortable. The general tightness and soreness I understand. But should the shoulder still give me sharp pains if I accidentally "use" the area that was operated on? I have a fear about something not being right because a couple of days after my surgery, a heavy glass lib began to slide out of a kitchen cabinet and, while my are was in the sling, reached up and over to catch it. This hurt quite a bit and I didn't know if I could have damaged the surgical area. My PT seems a little puzzled by the pain but thinks I am just tightening up my muscles too much. How would one know if damage had been done post-surgery and if it wasn't healing properly.

For my husband's last shoulder surgery, which was two years ago, he had a terrible time..The pain was terrible..He had scar tissue from the injury to start and had to work his way through this...I doubt you have injured your shoulder..It just takes time...Stay with your therapy...Do what she/he tells you...No more or no less...Nighttime is the worst...You are sleeping and move and you swear they are inserting a hot knife in your injured area....

You will be fine and give yourself time...Best wishes..
