According to the data you provided (5 day bleeding, two positive pregnancy tests, placenta found on ultrasound scan, high levels of Beta HCG and Progesterone), there is a possibility that you had a miscarriage. The high hormones might stay elevated long after the pregnancy is terminated. How long they would stay and how rapid they would fall depends on how long the pregnancy lasted.
Usually when the pregnancy was advanced, it might have taken more time for the female sex hormones to return to normal levels. Therefore, this is different in every woman and the high levels cannot be taken as a sure diagnostic method if a previous miscarriage is suspected.
It might even be a problem in women that know they had a miscarriage and are trying to conceive soon afterwards.
You might want to visit your gynecologist for additional information on this issue. S/He might want to have another ultrasound scan that would rule out or confirm pregnancy.
