Q: The "M" Word

Okay, the "m" word I am talking about is the other word for homicide. Why can it not be used? Just curious as to why "baby-killer" can be used but not the "m" word. I don't think that word is offensive in any way unless someone is accusing you of being a mur*erer. But if you look in the abortion forums, there are a few who use the choice words "baby-killer" (not to mention repeatedly reported for it but still using it)yet I cannot say, "It is not "m"" or "There are parents out there who actually "m" their children"...what is so bad about this word?

Do any administrators ever answer these? This thread is now a month old and still no reply to my question....

Two months now lol, I guess there is no interest in validating why the "m" word is so bad, yet calling someone a baby-killer or cannibal is okay.

Maybe...
Maybe it's to stop people from threatening each other and using inflammatory speech. They set up the site to filter out certain words. I encountered this same thing on a gaming site one time. I was trying to tell the person to pick up the "pocket watch," but since it has another word inside it (starts with a "t"), it wouldn't let me submit it, even with the space in between. Probably the reason they don't ban the word "killer" is because it can be used in non-inflammatory ways, such as "carbon monoxide is a silent killer."

Still makes no sense. Killer can be used in both inflammatory and non-inflammatory ways. And if I wanted to share a story on how a parent slayed his/her child or bring up homicide statistics, I would not be able to use a shortened word for homicide. Just makes little sense to me.

Because it reflects pangs of guilt in those who had to make use of the service, thus creating an uncomfortable site for them to visit. But I agree with you...it is what it is, whether it be a necessary service or not.

To me the word reflects sadness....Taking someone's life away is the worse hurt that you can do to someone...You have no right to inflict this pain on anyone...When I say it and can see it, I can see a mean person standing over a woman and beating her up and then saying there, I told you...and throwing down a knife...

I guess it is how this word was viewed as a child and how you accepted it that affects you...This is how it would have affected me...

When I see the word, I think of my brother. He was murdered back in 1969 at the age of 26. But on this site, for this particular topic, I think most people don't want to face or admit that is what has happened to an innocent life. It's too painful for some. Others, just use the service as a form of birth control, which is tragic.

IMO, this word can never be considered in the abortion or birth control phrasing...This is a horrible word of taking an alive person who had a life...This is playing both God and the Devil at the same time...This is Satan at it's worst...This is making every day of your life a bad memory....This is never forgetting a pain without a wound...This is hell....

I know what you mean, but calling someone a "baby killer" as a substitute for the "m" IS allowed in the abortion debate forums...to me that is just as offensive, hurtful and sad as the m word. To use the word negatively is horrid, I agree. But when you are referring to a person that has indeed been mu rde red in context such as that, the m word is so much easier to type than "homicided" or "homicide". And I don't mean the m word being used exclusively in the abortion debate forum...I mean in general. Like if I wanted to make a post in the general debate forum about a famous person homiciding another or whatnot, or if someone were to make a topic about serial killers to get opinions on why they went that route...stuff like that. It is just quicker to write the "m" word.

Yet, I wonder, why would we argue about using such a horrid word?...I figure this way....Unless the Administration had not made this ruling, we would be seeing this dreadful word far more than we do now...From my standpoint, it was a wise decision...One that I would have sided with...Reason being: I just do not like the word.....

We filtered this word years ago because it instigated flame wars. For more on what a flame war is, see this site:
