The digestive system is one of the most important body systems, simply because it process foods through chemical and mechanical digestion, and it transport nutrients to the blood to sustain life. A healthy digestive system is one of the key components to achieving optimal health, yet it is one area of the body that is ignored and to which so many pay little attention. It is not surprising that so many North Americans are having quite the challenge experiencing bowel movements with any regularity. An activity that should be done without effort, assuming the mechanical action is happening, has become a source of great discomfort. Some may find it embarrassing to have discussions pertaining to the topic of colon health; however, this condition needs to be addressed before the condition deteriorates.

I think that my experience with constipation has something to do with stress. I take psyllium husk supplements daily for regularity, I eat fruits and vegetables but still I wish I could eliminate more frequently. What can I do about constipation?

Constipation and stress
There are many reasons why constipation may occur. Lack of dietary fibre, lack of proper oils, insufficient water intake, a stressful lifestyle, lack of magnesium, lack of friendly bacteria, are a few of the areas that need to be examined when searching for solutions to constipation. To the best of my knowledge, psyllium only works well when enough water is ingested. You can start off by taking baby steps and gradually progress into regaining a healthy colon. Ingesting Aloe Vera Gel on a daily basis also works. Hope this helps.!!

Great information! I've also found that a quarterly enema helps to clean the lower third of the colon (the descending colon) and helps keep me regular. I am sure to use only clean, clean, clean spring water (nothing from the tap) and occasionally add a tsp of lemon or coffee grains to the water. I'm not sure if an enema should be taken in cases of constipation though...what's your opinion chezsante?
