As I work for the RNIB (Royal National Institute of Blind People), I'm always trying my best to make more aware about their eye health.

The first and most essential step to keeping your eyes healthy, is to attend regular appointments at an opticians. Even if your eyesight is fine, this does not necessarily mean that your eyes are healthy; conditions such as glaucoma can reduce your sight by up to 40% without you even noticing. Opticians can not only test your sight, but can also test for such conditions, allowing you know exactly how healthy your eyes are and whether any action is needed.

So, whether you suffer from existing sight problems or not, please read and pass this message on. Also, visit the RNIB website for further info:

Free eye tests
Hey all, just wanted to share a few facts I found out recently. As a smoker my GP warned me that smoking has as strong a link to glaucoma (a horrible condition as suffered by my elderly father) as it does to lung cancer! Not something they put on the side of cigarette packs. I get my eye tests free through work for using a laptop for 8 hours a day, but my Mum and Dad do too (think the cut off is over 60s?) and so do my kids in high school. I also saw my local Tescos doing free eye tests at their instore opticians, it's a nationwide thing apparently, so get in while you can!

Happy eyes indeed! Very Happy
