Hello,

My father is 54 years old now. He has thalassemia major and has been admmited to hospital before during 20+years old due to this problem. the doctor diagnose him with jaundice and MYCOPLASMA...

I have search a lot about this but I could not find the proper explaination for this.
Is my father having pneumonia as the doctor said mycoplasma...but he did not mention mycoplasma pneumonia...

My father also has a habit of coughing out quite loud, as if he is forcing out the sputum. Is this due to pneumonia?

May I know what exactly my father is having and his condition? Is this dangerous? Or what should my father do and take care of?

Thanks a lot =)

Hello, and thanks for your medical question on eHealthForum.

The history provided seems that your father is having a infection due to Mycoplasma , a form of bacteria, that can cause pneumonia in elderly patients (above 60 years), who have a reduced immune function.

Proper supportive care (Nebulisation, Mucolytic medications, Anticough medications) and adequate antibiotic coverage would be necessary to treat such an infection.

You might consult a physician for proper evaluation and treatment of your father's condition.

I hope this helps.

hello,

thanks a lot for your reply.

means its pneumonia instead of thalassemia problem? but my father is now very healthy, he did not have any problem physically.

should he go for medical checkup or blood test?

thanks a lot =)
