Any radiologists, doctors or nurses willing to help?

Mom has a doctor's appointment tomorrow, but she'd like to learn more about what to expect treatment and healing wise so that if presented with a choice of casting or an operation, she can choose wisely.

History: Mom's 70 years old, and has osteopina.

Injury: About 8 weeks ago mom was outdoors, on concrete about to step down a low step when her ankle and foot suddenly, unxepectedly twisted outward, like an ankle sprain.

She did not fall. But it was very painful and she (and someone who was with her about 5 feet away!) heard a snap. Bruising and some swelling were fast. The bruising was severe, and all along the outer side of her Right foot and a little in the ankle.

Mom is stubborn (you have no idea!) and refused to get off her foot and worked for a few more hours on the injured foot even with severe pain. (I wasn't there with her that day or I would have MADE her stop!)

She's been in pain, some limping and can't wear anything but a flat sandal mule on the foot. There was no heat and minimal swelling in the foot. But she did get nauseated with slight temperature elevation the day after the injury. We've been trying to get her to go to the doctor but she's been stubborn up until now. She stayed off her foot some but refused to wrap it, soak it or otherwise try to imobilize it.

I know that it's a fifth metatarsal break. But is it a Jones fracture or an Avulsion fracture? The tech told her that it's "just hanging there." Does the fact that she's waited so long have any impact on treatment options or recovery?

Any help would be appreciated. Hopefully the doctor will give her more info tomorrow.
