asked by: DoctorQuestion on October 5th, 2009
I have very low testosterone level (217)and would like to know if there is an alternative to testosterone therapy. Is't there any medicine's that can trigger my body to produce more testosterone on its own?

Hi
Welcome to the forum!
Testosterone replacement therapy is the main stay for treatment of low testosterone level. There is no alternate medication available to increase or trigger the body to increase the testosterone level.
There are a few things which you can do to increase the testosterone level: Increase exercise in a guided manner; give up alcohol especially beer; lower stress through meditation, yoga and deep breathing exercise; limit meat and poultry intake (do not stop completely); and if you wear jockey type of tight shorts, switch to boxer type loose ones.
These steps will step up the testosterone production in about 3 months time but cannot be taken up in isolation with a low value like 217.
However on net and without examining it is difficult to give a confirmed opinion. Please consult your doctor about these possibilities. Hope this helps. Take care!
