I am a 32 year old woman and I want to know if I should test for HIV. I just broke up with my fiance of 8 yrs last month,we had sex without a condom because i was on the pill. I found out last week that he was unfaithful, with at least 3 girls that I know of. I'm hirt and scared and dont know what to do. Should I be tested for HIV, when, how? I havent had an HIV test in several yrs.

OK, thanks so much. I read some of you other answers, and you seem to be very knowledgeable and helpful! What do you think my chances are that Im infected? Im a nervouse wreck,I just cant believe he did this to me! Ourt last sex was about 2 .5 months ago,so if I take a test now, will I need to test again? Ive seen people say you have to test at 3 months,or 6 months? Thank you so much from the bottom of my heart.

at 10 weeks, a duo test is a waste of money...a simple antibody test is all that is needed. a test at 10 weeks is HIIIIIIIGHLY unlikely to change BUT according to guidelines...3 months is conclusive

at 10 weeks, a duo is no more accurate than a simple antibody test.

prettyandscaredgal,

Follow the gold standard of HIV testing: the antibody test at three months past your last exposure. Anyone telling you anything else that takes less time is completely uninformed.

Best wishes.
