Q: Tested HIV negative after 7 months

Hi all,
I had protected sex(used condom) with a girl. However i still kept worrying about the possibility of getting HIV and hence i went to test 7 months later, the results are negative. I don't know if i should rest my mind at ease as i still feel the anxiety of having HIV. And as stated on many medical websites, tested at 6 months will be the most accurate. Then i came across a website which said that it could take up to 1 year for hiv antibodies to show if someone is on medication or hepatitis C.

The anxiety and worry is really killing me, each day is hard to live by. Hope someone can reassure this.

Thanks a million in advance.
Zack

Ok thanks man. But can the window period for hiv take up to 1 year? Or is 6 months already the safest to determine the hiv status of a person.

actually 3 months is enough. There are always exceptions to the rule though so as long as you test at 3 months and then again at 6 months then you should be OK.

if it would make you feel better then by all means test in 1 year.Whatever it takes to make you feel safe and happy and well. You can never test too often so go for it!Smile
