I have a left temporal lobectomy many years ago. After the surgery, I have an indentation on that side. What causes the indentation? Is it from loss of skull?

Complications of Temporal Lobectomy occur in about two percent of patients, but less serious complications happen more often. Once such complication is skull indentations...which you are experiencing. But as it's a cosmetic defect, doctors don't treat or worry about it too much. Other than that...how are you feeling?

Thanks for the info. I haven't had a seizure in 14 years now. It will be 14 years November 15th since I had the surgery. I totally changed my life around. I have just been concerned all of these years about the indentation on whether it is a danger area of exposed brain tissue or not. I wasn't for sure if there was any skull there or not.

Its reassuring to find a site like this one. The first time I went in for the temporal lobe surgery, they told me I was pregnant, we weren't expecting Maddie. This past July of 08 it happened though. I am still waiting for my hair to come back. It was within the last month that I stopped all the time. And I am set to see a psychatrist up at the hospital tommorrow. I hate pictures of me being taken bc my left side is dented as well. These are things they did not tell me.
