I was sitting here watching youtube a couple of hours ago when I felt a slight throbbing pain all around the temple area in the left side of my head. I naturally reacted by rubbing my head where it hurts and was alarmed when I felt a small lump about the diameter of a dime right next to my ear, (between my ear and my temple). It is not protruding very far but nonetheless it is noticeably different then the right side of my head(where the same area is completely flat). This lump is hard as if it's a part of my skull, its not mushy and it doesn't move(that I know of, I mean I didn't try very hard to move it for obvious reasons). I never noticed the lump before this, which is strange because I have VERY short hair and I'm always rubbing my own head out of habit because I like the way my hair feels. Anyways, the pain is a short-lasting, throbbing, pressure-like pain located directly around the lump. The pain is pretty much dormant until I move my head in any way especially if do any type of jerking movement it really hurts(except a little while ago while writing this my left eyeball was hurting pretty bad for about 5-10 seconds and I was not moving my head). This is really freaking me out. I'm going to the ER to get it checked out tommorrow but I have no insurance so I'm scared they will send me away with an antibiotic and tell me to watch it, when it could be a tumor. Someone please tell me what these symptoms mean and what this lump could be?Sad
Thanks

temporal lump
Hi, I awoke about a month ago with a dime sized hard lump on my left temple just beyond the hairline. Though it has remained relatively the same size, there are times when it is extremely sore and others when I hardly notice it. I have now noticed the beginning of another just above my left ear. The ER diagnosed sinusitis and claimed they could be swollen lymph glands. I started a round of antibiotics which seemed to help the lump above my ear. The other seems unchanged. I've had a CT Scan (completely normal) and have been checked by a general surgeon for a lipoma (a benign fatty tumor) but he claimed it was not a lipoma. His explanation (or lack of one) was that this was a "bony protuberance." I'm headed back to my family physician to see what's next. The pain I feel is usually a pretty constant dull ache in the areas of the lumps and a faint numbness in my cheek on the same side. I guess I really don't yet have any definitive explanation for you, but I wanted you to know that someone else out there is having a similar problem. Good luck to you.
