Q: Teenagers and hormonal imbalances
asked by: DoctorQuestion on March 3rd, 2009
Hi, I'm 16 years old, and about 4 days ago while using the bathroom I noticed what looked like black blood coming from my vagina. I didnt think anything of it because it was light at first, then the next day it was very think, almost glue like, very dark and lumpy. Each day it seems like the "flow" is getting heaver, and it is getting even thicker. I have had my period for about 4 years now, and this hasn't happened before. There isn't any pain, and my cycle comes the same day each month, the 14th, so it is way too soon for it to be my period. I'm not sexually active. What could be wrong with me? Please help.

You might be experiencing a hormonal imbalance. It is not unusual for teenagers to experience a hormonal imbalance, especially if accompanied with stress. If the blood does not stop for a few more days or you lose more blood in quantity, then you might want to visit your gynecologist to have a pelvic exam and laboratory tests (female hormones included).
