Techniques to sleep better? we all live in the same room.

I live in a 0br studio apartment with my family, so we all live in the same room.

I need to wake up at 5am every morning (including weekends) to walk to school because it takes 2 hours to get there since we can't afford to take the bus. I get home at around 10pm because I have night classes so I need to go to bed right away to get my 8 hours of sleep as per what doctors say to maintain optimal health.

The problem is, my sister stays up until 2-4am talking to her friends on the phone/computer, and refuses to turn the lights and TV off the entire time and she doesn't care about anyone. So I end up only getting a couple hours of sleep every night.

I'm becoming stressed because the scholarship I get for school has raised their GPA minimum since so many students are achieving a 3.6, I now have to maintain a 3.8 GPA as a Physics major and my grades have been dropping because I can't get enough sleep.

I bought IEMs and tried putting the earphones in my ears, but I couldn't hear my watch alarm and I woke up at 2pm in the afternoon and missed classes.

Are there any techniques I can use at home to fall asleep for 8 hours then be able to wake up at exactly 5am without oversleeping?

Extremely eHealthy
There are some herbal remedies to aid sleep available from health shops, herbalists and pharmacies but I suggest you cut all caffeine from your diet and drink something that aids relaxation like camomile tea and make sure you have a later supper with plenty of green salad.

Being in the right frame of mind for sleep is important so something like a ten minute stroll (without pressure and with an empty head) in the fresh air could be valuable...

The reason you are not sleeping probably has as much to do with your state of mind than with the noise your sister is making - few people sleep or rest properly when they are uptight because they are irritated or because the brain is buzzing...

You can try any of the relaxation techniques based on self-hypnosis but what worked for me is laying on my left side and replaying the day on my mind's eye, sorting out things in my head and then turning on to my right side with a relatively empty mind meant I couldn't stay awake if I wanted to...

Failing all that you could try making your sister wear her computer like a necklace or arrange for the power to be cut off...

Would it be possible to borrow a bicycle which would save you more than two hours each day and cost little more than walking. Failing being able to borrow a bike such things are sometimes given away and in some parts of the world serviceable cycles can found in scrapyards and landfill sites.

Perhaps your sister would place a request on your local freecycle, or similar site?

Good luck with your course...

In my opinion, the only way u can sleep better under the given circumstances is by asking for a little cooperation from ur family. there is no other way u can achieve wt ur thinking of.
