Q: tearing optic nerve ?

I was reading about the eye anatomy (pretty much feeding my fear) and I read that if some rotated the globe (eye) then it would tear the optic nerve. they made it seem that all you had to do was rotate it once and you're screwed. But to explain my fear about all this is lossing my eyes. I have intrusive thoughts about myself taking them out. is this even possible?

You eyes are in the socket holding them together with conective tissue, nerves and veins. You eyes pretty much ca'nt fall out. Unless there is a severe injury and in many cases the eye can be put back into place with some tissue and mucsle repair. You can take out your own eye but, it will be just hanging by all the above. Not a nice site. When I was an EMT, I saw just that. Like I said, not a pretty picture.

You forgot to mention the 6 muscles that envelop the globe itself. And you can "take you eye out". The optic nerve only has 10mm (less than half an inch) of play. So therefor it can't hang out of the socket at all. The closest you would get to what you're talking about is called globe luxation. And when this happens it never cleary clears the eyelids.

I just need reassurance sometimes about all this. I have ocd and have intrusive thoughts about my eyes coming out or myself taking them out. reassurance is still needed. So please reply and answer my question with more in depth details.

Well, if you have so much good knowledge of the fact. Then what may I ask is your problem? I worked for an opthalmologist for a year. But, never really studied the the inner eye that well. If you re-read my post, I did mention nerves and muscle. So, I do know what ingulfs the eye itslef. Why would you worry about something you are a pro at knowing the answers and you did not make your question clear. All I am reading is dreams. I would do a search or better yet go to an opt and get some proffessional answers to your questions.

I mean to say ("and you CAN'T take your eyes out") sorry about that.
