I am an active 18 year old female and have been suffering from heel, ankle, and foot pain for 7 months. What started out as bad shin splints in my left leg developed into not being able to effectively push off of my left foot and suffering from moderate pain in my heel and ankle. There was also a snapping sensation in my heel/ankle whenever I pushed off of that foot through walking or calf raises. I was diagnosed with a tear (of unknown severity) of my posterior tibialis in my left calf and tendonitis of the tendon as a result. After a rest period of 8 weeks (2 of which were non-weight bearing) I underwent about 6 weeks of physical therapy. This helped to reduce the amount of pain I was in, but the snapping sensation continued. There was no pain associated with it at that time, but it was definately an uncomfortable feeling. Since that time, (several months) the snapping has continued and the pain is returning. My calf is unusually tight, so much to the point where I sometimes walk on my toes without even noticing. Because of this, I do stretching throughout the day. The pain is worst first thing in the morning or when getting up after being off of my feet for a long period of time. The pain will also increase in severity if I stand or am on my feet for too long. I am leaving home for college next year and would like to resolve the problem before doing so. Is there anything I could do to stop the pain, or more importantly the snapping sensation? Also, if left untreated, will this cause any other problems later on or is there a chance of it resolving on its own any time soon?
