Women with lower back tattoos can have an epidural anesthesia. An exception is when the tattoo is still fresh, meaning that the skin has not healed yet.
Due to possible risks of infection, taking antibiotics before getting a tattoo is recommended.
Getting a tattoo increases the risk for endocarditis only because of the temporarily damaged skin which is a great entrance for infection. If the tattoo is done with infected instruments, then the risk for infection and subsequent endocarditis is significantly increased.
