Q: tampon use for young girls?

my daughter is only 10, but her menstrual cycle is so heavy i dont know what to do, she overlaps 2 pads to keep from leaking and it still doesnt work, she is sometimes missing school because she has accidents when her cycle is really heavy. is it safe to let her use tampons, her age is just so young, but im at a loss of other ideas. she is health conscious, keeps herself clean and taken care of, and i dont worry about that, only that she is only 10.

Hi hun you can use tampons at any age as long as they remember to change every four hours.....also though something to consider..younger girls are at higher risk of toxic shock syndrome due to their bodies not being fully developed... but as long as you tell your daughter to change regularly i dont see why not...Jenny

There are smaller tampons for teens but if she bleeds through maxi's or overnights, they are not going to work either. Overlapping pads is not a good idea because of the plastic layers in them. Incontinence pads and panties might work better for her.

The answer might just be for her to change whatever she use more regularly during the day and use a different product at night.

Menstrual cups may also work for her although it may be difficult for her to find one small enough. These can normally take much more flow than any other menstrual product and can stay in for much longer.

It might also be worth her while to use hormonal birth control to regulate her periods. It is not something that should be done lightly but if she is missing school, it is a major problem in her life.

Best of luck!!

i have a heavy flow as well and if her flow is that heavy tampons may prove to be less effective.

|I usually chnage a super plus 1x an hr. i end up having so many leaks and spending way to much money so i just use pads and mine is not as heavy as hers. |I would wait if it was my daughter. I would go to a physician to make her hormones are ok...even after a son and IUD i dont bleed that much
