Q: talking and twitching in sleep

For years now I have yelled, cried, twitched, and swore in my sleep. It has gotten worse since my divorce a year ago.
When I first start to fall asleep, I twitch my hands and legs. Then i'm constantly dreaming of either being angry with someone or confronting someone. During this time I have kicked my boyfriend in my sleep as well as yelled, and always swearing. He wakes me up and will talk to me and I apparently talk back but do not remember at all what is said or what I said. I always answer back. When he does this I am told I say rude things to him. I do this to whoever wakes me up to snap out of it. I've done all of this since I was a teenager.(I am now 34 years old). It is quite embarrassing no matter where I'm sleeping. Sometimes I wake up and certain people are mad at me for things I have said that I don't remember. Then when I wake up for the day, I feel like I haven't slept.
What causes this and how can I get myself to stop??? Please help!!! Rolling Eyes

Sounds like RBB- REM sleep behavior disorder. In a person with REM sleep behavior disorder (RBD), the paralysis that normally occurs during REM sleep is incomplete or absent, allowing the person to "act out" his or her dreams. RBD is characterized by the acting out of dreams that are vivid, intense, and violent. Dream-enacting behaviors include talking, yelling, punching, kicking, sitting, jumping from bed, arm flailing, and grabbing.
I'd schedule an appointment with your doctor ASAP. He/she will probably send you to a sleep center for a sleep study. You'll spend the night at the facility while hooked up to wires that will monitor you sleep patterns.
Medication is supposed to help or fully eliminate your problem so don't suffer from this needlessly.
