Q: Talk me out of an abortion
asked by: diamondsz on October 15th, 2008

win-win solutions....

Give me 3 good reason why I should not have an abortion, adoption is out of the question, the demand for parents can't be met, so its left to parenting or abortion.

My scenario, two kids, low-income, separated and well Im not emotionally or physically capable of another kids, why should I continue the pregnancy?

I took birth control, missed a few pills on a camping trip, came back and took plan B, I am not religious, so I dont believe in any religious concepts.

According to law, homicide is commited on a person, an unborn human, does not have obtain those rights till birth.

Give me three good reason why I should not abort, that do not touch on religion, law or old traditions.

for example...... abortion is like Jello, there is no substance, must mean you dont have brains
-Only people who open their legs get abortions ex

1) You'd stop getting a good seat on the bus.

2) You could use the money it cost to upgrade your cable service.

3) It's a great excuse to eat extra Häagen-Dazs.

...oh wait, you said a good reason. Sorry. Can't think of a single good reason not to get an abortion if the woman involved chooses to want one Wink

If your question is not hypothetical, and you are actually in this position, then I'd take a blank piece of paper, draw a line down the middle, and on one side list all the reasons to get an abortion, and on the other side list the reasons to have a third child. Just keep in mind that the faster you get an abortion, the better for all parties involved.

Having said that, if you already have two kids and have a low-income then - NOT having an abortion - would certainly hurt those childrens lives (and your own) because you'd have a lot of extra stress on your budget.

Yeah I'm waiting for a anti-choicer to start complaining about "how dare you compare an unborn bay-beee with a pint of rocky road ice cream" giggle

Good thing you included the "do not touch on religion, law or old traditions" provision. It appears that the anti-choicer silence in this thread is proof that even they can't come up with one GOOD solid reason for someone not to get an abortion. Gotta love progress Wink

I would challenge you that you could not find parents for adoption...

Which would make parenting an obsolete choice...

Because you haven't said you want an abortion?
Because the father wants the child?
Because the purposeful ending of life is objective to you for whatever moral reasons you hold?

Cool I tried.

Explain. It's literally part of the woman's body. If she chooses to give the born baby to him to raise then that's one thing, but he has no rights to the fetus. The supreme court has made it quite clear that another person has no control over any other person - even if that person is a relative that might be able to save your life.

Birch knows that as do I, sometimes though I feel bad because it does take two people but then it contradicts my views of choice, so choice becomes the lesser evil.

I understand, and yes it takes two people to start the process, but once it's been started and becomes part of the woman's body, she, and she alone gets the only vote in the matter. Being a guy I wish it were different, but above all else I must be honest and look only at the facts of the matter, and the facts clearly show that every part of everyones (man or womans) body belongs to them, and them alone. This is not just the law, it is the only moral right choice. In time technology will solve the abortion issue, but until then women and their rights need to be upheld and respected. We all wish for and want things in life. But just because a guy may 'want' a woman to carry on with a pregnancy, doesn't make it right, because if we allow only his wishes to have any bearing, then we are at the same time also diminishing the woman's wishes and rights, and it is, after all, her body.

If a woman wants a baby with a man is she allowed to tie him up and surgically remove sperm from him? No. And vice versa, a man is not allowed to force a woman through pregnancy and childbirth because he wants a child.

Well, if you are white, not a drug addict or alcoholic, and have no history of mental illness or genetic defects, you could probably sell the baby (ie get it adopted for reasonable "expenses" being paid to you). Adoptive parents for non-white babies, crack babies, disabled babies or anything older than babies may be in short supply, but if you meet the criteria you could get your medical and living expenses paid -- so you could do pretty well financially for the pregnancy, probably around $20,000 if you did it right.

It's not about control, it's not about rights, it was just a reason why a woman might choose not to have an abortion.

I think taking your partner's view as a valid input would be part of the process of deciding whether or not to keep a pregnancy. He shouldn't have the final say, but I would take into account his point of view if I were in a situation like this.
