Parkinson's disease affects the neural transmission. When an erection in patients with Parkinson’s disease occurs, it is due to the inability for the neural signals to travel from the brain to the penis. Nevertheless, the penile tissue is intact. So, other mechanisms can help the erection. Sildenafil, for example, can cause dilation of the blood vessels in the cavernous part of the penis, thus increasing the volume and causing an erection. You might want to consult with your neurologist for the possible side effects before taking sildenafil.
