Q: Taking medicines and exercising during pregnancy
asked by: DoctorQuestion on November 1st, 2009
Hi
I'm 7 weeks pregnant and am in the fitness industry. I take 8 mg ephedrine with caffeine on 3 days in a week. I know I shouldn't but it helps me teach classes. Is it harmful? Also I take 2 solpadol tablets everyday for pain..is it a safe dose? Also I do run quite a lot at the gym. Can I continue to run or should I stick to low impact work? What about working my abs? Is it safe?

You would like to know whether taking ephedrine and solpadol would harm the fetus and whether you can continue with the exercises.

When a woman is pregnant substances and medications must be prescribed with precaution, especially in the first trimester when no medication or substance can be prescribed.

You may consider avoiding taking the medicines you already take because these medications may cause abnormalities in the baby. You may also consider decreasing the time and the amount of the exercises of any kind because it may cause bleeding and a miscarriage.

You may consider seeing a gynecologist for further advice about the medicine intake and fitness during pregnancy.

Please keep in mind that I am trying to provide you with medical information here. I am not able to give you medical advice online. Please contact your doctor or a qualified healthcare provider such as a gynecologist for further advice.
