Does Synthroid have anything to do with abnormal menstrual cycle
I am convinced that synthroid hormones affect menstrual cycles.... My Synthroid was decreased from .112 mcg to .88 mcg over a period of about 3 months. At the time of diagnosing too much thyroid hormone, I missed 4 months of periods. When the level evened out, I had a period in November. December was my next period and I continue bleeding now for over 2 weeks. Hope this helps.

I too haven't had a period since starting synthroid. It just now came to me about the connection. Its been 150 days w/ no period!

I have a call into my doctor. I am on 50mcgs per day, and my thyroid is regulated at last check up.

period and synthroid
I am so messed up on Sythroid. I began in January. as I was told I have hypothyroidism and I was having an never ending period. Since I began I had spotting but no period. In may , I began my 1.0 Synthroid and I got the mother of all periods. Its so bad right now that every day at the same time it seems to go beserk and I can soak 2 or 3 pads over 2 hours. Its going on week 2 with this bleeding and I am going nuts.

I was also diagnosed with Hypothyroidism and put on Synthroid and for like 4 months I kept telling myself its just me (Ive always been irregular)but my period got so heavy I had to constantly change completely soaked overnight pads and spotted between periods. I decided to experiment and stop taking the medication since my last blood test came back normal and as soon as I did the bleeding got much lighter and now it has completely gone away. I have to speak to my doctor but for now I am going to enjoy not bleeding through my clothing and waking up with soaked sheets.

thyroid and the never ending period
When I was first dignosed , my levels of tsh were 17.86 and I was highlighted as urgent.

Since on the synthroid 0.1 mg.. the period is never ending. I went into a walk in clinic and was given Novo Medrone for 5 days which stopped it for about 8 days which was absolutely bliss. However within 3 days after stopping the novomedrone I began to have a period and its been fairly heavy and also going on day 7 with absolutely no end in sight. I have blood tests to do this month and my appointment is only for the end of July to see my thyroid specialist but let me tell you I cannot continue to bleed like this. I desperately need to stop . Its draining, its causing me insomnia because I fear a massive leak in the middle of the night and lets face it, who can sleep with a massive heavy period? I am such an emotional wreck right now. I just cannot stand this. According to some online doctors and even the ones I spoke to at the walk in clinic , this is common for women with hypothyroidism because we often do not ovulate and get a build up in the uterus. However it does not help me.. gosh if anyone has a suggestion or thought or tried something that did work to ease the bleeding I would love to hear from you. I broke down today and just cried. With no end in sight and summer coming and a small son to care for I am so upset.

Follow the directions for using this medicine provided by your doctor. Take Synthroid exactly as directed.

Synthroid is usually taken as a single dose, preferably on an empty stomach, one-half to one hour before breakfast.

Take Synthroid with a full glass of water.

Do not take products such as iron supplements, calcium supplements, or antacids within 4 hours of taking Synthroid.

Wow!! This is seriously an answer to my prayers.
I have been having a HEAVY and PAINFUL cycle
for the last 4 mo. It started in early April and hasn't stopped
since. No one has had any idea as to what was going on.
I passed out 2 times the other day, have dangerously low
blood pressure, and continous heart palpatations. I had
blood work done yesterday to see if I needed a blood
transfusion. I just so happen to also be on 100 mcg of
synthroid. I forgot to take it yesterday and today. I noticed
that my bleeding lightened. Didn't put it together till now. Hmm??

Synthroid and menstrual cycles
I was on Armour Thyroid (a NATURAL thyroid medication) for over a decade and NEVER had problems. Then, the company was running low, so we switched me over. Since then I've had the strangest cycles ever, both extremes, and now I'm told I'm not ovulating. I KNOW it's the Snythroid... and you all have confirmed that I'm not alone. Thank you -- and I HIGHLY recommend asking your docs to switch you over. The company is back with it's supply, so we should all be good. It's cheap, but it is made from pig. I've had to reconcile that with my kosher/vegan background, and just trust that it's what I need to be healthy and take care of my family. Good luck you to you all!

Perimenopause
My wife is perimenopausal and hasn't had her period since last June. She started on Synthroid about three weeks ago for a hypothyroid diagnosis. Guess what "paid her a visit" today?

Might require some medication juggling.
It makes sense that your other hormones would be affected by your thyroid levels. It also makes sense that those levels might take you on a roller coaster ride. Any time you put a hormone in your body ALL THE OTHERS adjust themselves as well. If you have too much or too little, you could likely have some weirdness with your cycle, and that level might be different from month to month. Talk to your doctor gyno about hormone balancing.
On a side note, I took someone's advice and started taking my synthroid before bed (I allow 3-4 hours without food). I swear I feel better, but I think my levels are a little higher than they were due to better absorption, an my period is SUPER lite this month.... hence my finding this post.
