Q: symptoms of multiple sclerosis?

Hello, I am a male and I'm 17 years old. Recently I have been worried about getting multiple sclerosis as I may have a few of the syndromes. Are they good enough for me to get checked up for?

1) As of a few days I've got erectile dysfunction (It is hard for the penis to grow and get hard, and it stays floppy). I am planning to go to the doctor (I was a little embarrassed to talk about it at first with my parents and I thought it would go away) to have this checked, but I found out that it is one of the syndromes of MS.

2) A few years back I had a case of whiplash which lasted a few weeks. I didn't exactly know what triggered it.

3) The past year I had (at least one of each if I remember) a numb finger and a tingley finger, which weren't cause (or from what I remember) by stopped blood circulation, though the numb finger appeared when I woke up.

4) I am usually rather groggy when I wake up (I heard it was an MS syndrome), though it may just be me and it often happens when I have a schedule.

5) I used to have trouble speaking when I was growing up (I also heard that was a symptom), but now I don't so it might not be related.

Should I get checked out for MS for these reasons? Thank you

I have been dx'd with MS for 8 years. Is there anyone in your family that has MS?

With what you are describing I seriously doubt you have MS. Are you stressed or in activities that could cause some of your symptoms (other than item 1). If it is bothersome for you and to ease your mind then yes, I would see your family physician for a workwork, blood, etc to see if anything is out of the normal.

Actually what you have described sound like things that most people have had happen to them or to others sometime in their lifetime. Like 4: my kids always wake up groggy and they are healthy. 3: You could have slept on your arm, hand or finger and upon wakening it was tingly. 2: Sleeping wrong or moving your head too fast, etc could create a whiplash type symptom.

take care
