Q: Symptoms of epididymitis or orchitis
asked by: DoctorQuestion on October 26th, 2008
A few weeks ago I started getting a heavy burning feeling in my left testicle. If i moved a certain way or strained I would feel a bit of pain in my groin on the left side. Since then its extremely tender to the touch on the left side and I get the burning feeling etc in my left testicle. Do you think the hernia could have reoccured even though there isnt a bulge?

According to the major symptom you describe (heavy burning feeling in the left testicle) you are probably experiencing epididymitis or orchitis. Epididymitis is an inflammation of the epididymis (a curved structure at the back of the testicle), while orchitis is an inflammation of the testicle. Orchitis is less frequent, but not less important, than epididymitis. Both are usually caused by infection with different microbes, such as Chlamydia trachomatis, Escherichia coli or Neisseria gonorrhoeae. A sterile reflux of urine through the ejaculatory ducts can also cause the described symptoms. A set of laboratory tests might be needed for complete diagnostics, such as a culture of the semen, culture of the urine, etc.

You might want to consult with urologist.
