Q: Symptoms of endometrial hyperplasia
asked by: DoctorQuestion on February 18th, 2009
I have had irregular periods since I was 15. I had my estrogen checked when I was 17 and it was too low, it was in menopause levels. I was then placed on different types of birth control to to get my periods regular and to bring up the estrogen levels. It was rechecked the next two years and it was still low, and i was still having irregular cycels that were lasting up to 20 days and were very painful. I switched doctor's and had a ultrasound done in the fall of 2007 (I was 20) and it showed that the lining of my uterus was twice the normal size. I continue to have problems including extreme pain in the inside of the vaginal area when I am bleeding only, and I'm still having irreglar cycles that can't be controlled. They schedule another ultrasound. Is this thickening of the lining a problem? Is there something going on that could be stopped?

Vaginal and Uterus Health Answer A5806
Current medical status: ultrasound 2007
Current medical treatment: many different hormone pills, currently Lybrel 2x day, estrodial 1x day, and regular office visits

Thickening of the endometrium could mean endometrial hyperplasia which can be manifested with irregular and prolonged vaginal bleeding (metrorrhagia). You may need another vaginal examination, ultrasound scan, PAP-test and tests for STDs to find out the reason for the irregular cycles and pain inside the vagina.
