Hello, my name is Gayle. I was just wondering what the symptoms of Bipolar Disorder are - because I believe that my sister may be bipolar. One minute she is calm and in a good mood, the next she is irritated and ripping your head off. I just want to be able to understand what she may have and how to communicate it her.

Hello Gayle,

Well the symptoms that you mention could belong to Bipolar, but this does not nessary mean that she has Bipolar Disoder. She would need to have more symptoms than you have meioned. She would also need meet the DSM-IV criteria for Bipolar to be classed as Bipolar.

If you are concerned and if you sister does indeed have Bipolar, she would need treatment by a medical profesional.

See if you can get her to go to a doctor for a diagnosis.

You can also go the one of the sites on the right of screen like: Bipolar Central and you should find out more about the symptoms of Bipolar.
