Q: Symptoms of a migraine headache
asked by: DoctorQuestion on October 27th, 2009
I have had miagraines for years but in Feb. I started getting very sharp pains in the back left side of my head. It hits me all at once and usually lasts about 8-10 seconds. But it has been happening more often and lasting longer. I've not had any vision changes or numbness in my face or arms. Now the pain has started filling like a pulling feeling in my head. It scares me when it happens because it not a regular headache pain. I don't have insurance but does this sound serious enough that I should get checked out?

You would like to know whether you should be examined to find out the reason for your headaches.

Migraine is a recurrent, throbbing, very painful headache, often affecting one side of the head and sometimes accompanied by vomiting or by distinct warning signs including visual disturbances.

Given the symptoms that you described, it doesn’t seem likely that you are experiencing migraine attacks. You may be experiencing a headache caused by increased blood pressure. You may consider seeing a cardiologist or neurologist to find out more about diagnosis and treatment.

Please keep in mind that I am trying to provide you with medical information here. I am not able to give you medical advice online. Please contact your doctor or a qualified healthcare provider such as a cardiologist or neurologist to learn more about treatment options.
