Q: Symptoms and treatment for fungal infections
asked by: DoctorQuestion on April 20th, 2009
Since my last girlfriend several years ago I have had itching on scrotum and later in my anus w/no other symptoms. I have been tested 3x for STD's, with negative results. After being examined by my current family doctor, she said I seem to have a fungal infection and prescribed ketoconazole cream. It temporarily relieves the itch but does not kill the infection. Is there something better i could take?

It is very important for a medical professional to see the affected skin if there are pimples, rush, or any other type of discoloration.

If a fungal infection is diagnosed, antifungal medications are all you need. Please keep in mind that the fungal infections need longer treatment and can easily come back if not treated long enough. Not having intercourse while undergoing the treatment is recommended. Otherwise, the infection might be transmitted to the other partner and retransmitted back when the treatment ends.
