hi there... I've been having an ongoing issue for about four months now with a very limited amount of answers. since december of 2011 i found myself getting sick frequently but i thought nothing of it. then this january i found two lymph nodes in my neck below my ear that were enlarged. typically when i am sick they swell which i have gotten used to. but when i found them this time i had no cold symptoms and hadn't been sick in some time... in addition to these swollen nodes I've had red itchy spots on my body. they arent very bad maybe 75 on my body total that come and then go just for new ones to come again.
after finding them i went to my pcp i had numerous blood tests. all were normal except for i am EBV positive. after an ultrasound they found i had four lymph nodes that were swollen in my neck ranging from 3cm to 5cm in addition other neck nodes were found and enlarged but less then 2 cm. i was also told my tonsils are very enlarged but the one on the right side is dramatically larger and looks completely different. they found my thyroid is also enlarged and has five nodules. after this my pcp referred me to an ENT.
the ent told my that yes i do have numerous swollen nodes, but they appear to be normal shaped and told me i have tonsillitis but he has now sent me to get a fine needle biopsy as well. when he felt my neck on the day of the exam he did agree that my node on the right side of my neck has gotten larger since the ultrasound. in addition due to swelling if you look at the back of my neck it almost looks like one side is sunken in. not sure if one side is more swollen or what is going on.
i was wondering if anyone had any ideas of what could be wrong. in addition how accurate is a FNA biopsy in detecting malignancy. it has been 4 months and in that time they have gotten larger. antibiotics and prednisone do not help and i feel as if the doctors are overlooking me because i am only 21 and am in otherwise good health. all answers and suggestions are welcome.. thanks
