Q: Swollen lymph nodes caused by HIV?

I had protected sex with a male sex worker. The condom did not break and he did not ejaculate inside my body. But the lymph nodes under both of my armpits became swollen about 6 weeks after the encounter. At the same time, my dentist discovered that I had an abscessed tooth and I needed a root canal. The lymph nodes under the armpits went back to normal soon after the dental infection had been taken care of. But a couple of weeks after that, they began to swell up again. The doctor gave me a dosage of antibiotics (bactrim) and the lymph nodes went back to normal very quickly. My question: would the lymph nodes respond so well to antibiotics if they were swollen because of hiv?

If they'll be swollen due to HIV infection, will probably be swollen for mostly two week, and not relapsing again.

Do you still have symptoms of tooth abscess?

Thank you very much for your response. I had a more specific question if it's possible to bother you. As I mentioned in my original post, the use of antibiotics quickly led to a reduction in the swelling of the lymph nodes under my armpits. Would antibiotics have worked as well to reduce the swelling if the cause was an HIV infection rather than an abscessed tooth? I've read many times that antibiotics do not help with viral infections.

Yes you are right about antibiotics.
They don't work on viruses.
There can be several reasons for healing of abscess to fail.
If you have been performed conventional root canal therapy, is possible that this one wasn't performed well, or some complications have developed.
I'll suggest you to visit your dentist once more, and ask for check up.
