I have a swollen lymph node on my face next to my left ear, it is painful. I have no infections that I know of! Why else would i be swollen?

It is hard to say without an examination. Besides the lymph node, the parotid salivary gland is located next to your ear. When inflamed, the parotid gland can also be swollen. You can consult your primary health provider, first, and latter an ENT, if necessary.
