Back Dec. 2011 I had to have a cavity refilled...after I had it refilled I had an achyness in my lower gums that comes & goes-almost four weeks ago I got a second opinion on the tooth that was refilled & he put a temporary filling in to see if it would "calm down" well, he also put some ointment in the filling & said that it should help-well it's a nasty taste & within a few days after he put the temperory in i started feeling a slight sore throat-by the next week my mouth was hurting worse-i went back & he temporarily filled it again & had to shoot me up three times with novacane! He then bruised my jaw & by this time my sore throat was full blown & the weirdest sore throat I've had ever-I'm 33 & if I ever get a sore throat I get a cold as well. So anyways-by the next week I went to the dr. & I was tested for strep-came back negative-she would not run blood test but instead just gave me an antibioitic "just in case" well. I took this for one week, sore throat I thought was going away, but just last friday 5/11 one of my glands got swollen, almost feels like something is stuck in the back right side of my throat-no other symptoms are going on, except still have my tooth issue. I am debating on getting the tooth pulled since it seems like everything is from this tooth, even though i was told it was just cracked & everything is a couinsidence!?? I don't think so...but it's VERY annoying. I do not want to go back to the dr., as I have to pay out of pocket & can't afford it. Anyone else have results? I will keep you posted-but this has been almost three weeks now. I feel find otherwise & is of course on the side with the tooth that is giving me a problem. I just want to get back to feeling normal & enjoying life!! There has also been on/off pain in my inner ear the past few days. Also since Friday it feels like I have dry mouth & always have to keep drinking water. Sorry for the long post & thanks for any input!
I had the exact same symptoms! After 3 days of it not going away I asked for some advice! Pain killers,Ibuprofen worked wonders to relieve the pain so you can at least eat a little better! But also vitamin C's and the all natural Juice called Gochi! About 3 days of that and I was barely feeling a thing and by 4 (about a week of having it) It was completely gone! Also for temporary relief gargle salt water
Thanks, but I always have vitamin c's & drink vitamin water every day-I'm usually very healthy & am almost a vegetarian I eat so much veggies so I don't think this is it but thanks. I've tried every remedy in the book! I just don't know what my problem is but I hope to find it-I'd hate to just pull my tooth.
I had pretty much the same symptoms - left side. Pain in the tonsil area, ear ached, neck felt sore, and head was tender behind and above the affected ear.
I put a few drops of Sovereign Silver Colloidal Silver in the hole in the tonsil with a glass dropper. Then put some of the colloidal silver in an empty nasal spray bottle and sprayed some in my nose. Put a drop in my ear. Blew my nose after a few minutes and sprayed some more in and then took some ibuprofen and went to bed. Woke up the next morning and felt fine. No pain! I still noticed a little congestion so I sprayed my nose again and have been fine since.
Colloidal Silver is an anti-viral, anti-bacterial, anti-fungal antibiotic. You can order it over the Internet. Don't use a cheap brand. And it is good to have around if you are allergic to antibiotics. I really hope this helps. I only suffered for about a week and a half. Don't think I could have gone for months with that pain, especially in my ear. That was awful.
I was hoping when I went to the doctor it would be an easy diagnosis? I haven't gone yet but it's been hurting for a week now. My left lymph node is extremely swollen and hurting, mostly on the outside, does not feel like a sore throat. it started with that and now its gone up to the inner of my ear, which is the worst of the pain. it hasnt gotten noticeably worse, but its definitely not getting any better. I'll share what happens when I go to the doctors! it hurts badly. can anyone tell me if theirs got worse over time, how long they've had it? how long they had it before they went to the doctors?? I don't want to wait too long and it get worse.
I have the same thing as you described..not a sore throat really but sore to touch the outside and major earache. I have been allergy tested, and I have an allergy to molds and yeast. I have a deviated septum and small sinuses which contribute to chronic sinusitis. I went to Dr. on Friday and he gave me a round of antibiotics (Levequin) but as of today, 3 days later, my ear is still hurting and pain in neck is still there. I noticed my neck began getting sore after eating malt vinegar (of course it contains yeast) so I am thinking it all started due to my allergy. If I am no better by Friday I will be going back and seeing if we can do a steroid to help reduce the inflamation is the eustacian tube. I will let you know if, when and what made me well
Well I have a swollen lymph node on my left side of my neck ,ear pain, just recently a smoker ,and a really bad headache ,also whenever I try to swollow my throat is in excrutiating pain. what is this?
Has anyone looked into Hashimoto's thyroid disease? I had my Dr. test me twice in the past year for low thyroid due to other issues and all blood test came back normal. Now I have this sore lymph node (not swollen just really sore and causing ear pain yet my ear in not sore at all, inside or out. I read where the normal blood test for thyroid disorder may actually be normal and yet still have hashimoto disease. Anyone have any input on this or am I just reaching for straws trying to find a diagnosis?
I write this as I had this problem but seemed to fix it within 48 hours. Here's what I did in case it helps any others.
I came to this forum having symptoms similar to many here: I had a stabbing pain in my right side of face. It felt like a hot needle into my ear and jaw in irregular times.
Firstly the timing wasn't related to my breathing or pulse or swallowing, nor when I pressed anything or opened my jaw so I ruled out something physical rubbing or pressing.
The timing of the pain was irregular - between 4 sec and 48 seconds and of differing intensity. It got worse at night to where I couldn't sleep nor lay in bed any longer.
Symptoms started the day before as a sore throat that got worse, then the pain in the ear came later in the 2nd day to the max at night. No other noticeable symptoms (eg no runny nose, etc, just pain).
I had once felt this type of pain 2 years ago from an ear infection and slightly perforated ear drum. I thought it might be the same and put a few drops of hydrogen peroxide in my ear, but this time it didn't fizz and bubble, meaning there was no open skin (and my ear canal was fine).
The pain was all the way from my neck to my temple and across the face. Reading one poster, I pressed at the back of my jaw under my ear and it lessened the pain considerably. This made me think it was either an infection of the throat, swelling over the nerve or an infection that was eating into the nerve somehow.
Note I have never smoked, my health is normally excellent and am not on any meds. Also never had allergies.
I asked myself what was different. I was staying with friends and they had both a cat and a dog. In my home we are very clean (no shoes inside, no pets, cleaner each week vacuuming, etc). My friends have both pets and shoes inside and on furniture; no idea how or how often they clean the carpets/sofas.
For other reasons, I ended up sleeping on the floor and not very well. It was that day after I had the pain.
Pain was a great motivator at 1am to research the internet and it looked like something similar to an allergy. I took a Claretine (antihistamine) and also an ibuprofen for the pain. I then cleaned my teeth, moth etc very well with mouthwash.
I then chewed raw garlic and put small pieces in the folds of my mouth, under the tongue, behind the tonsils... everywhere I could make it stick
Raw garlic stings a bit but less than the stabbing pain in the face. I kept this up for about 30 minutes and the pain was gone.
I slept well and made sure I got more sleep. Some tiny twinges of pain the next day. I kept brushing my teeth, mouth washing with peroxide and chewing raw garlic through the day. I also avoided both sugar and alcohol as I'd read they agrovate infections. I ate lots of veg, did everything to build my immune system but by that night it was totally gone.
Now, 4 days later it's nothing but a memory.
I hope this works for others. Also for those people getting freaked and fearing cancer and other extreme cases, just try what I did first, then freak later if you really must (also fear is an immune suppressant and likely to make you more sick... just saying...)
I have a swollen outer ear, both the lymph node behind my ear and under my jaw are swollen along with my face(all on the right side) have been on antibiotics for almost a month now and antifungals for a week... isn't really helping... dr will start testing me for autoimmune deficiencys if it doesn't clear up . Is anybody else having this problem? Or know what it is?

I had swollen lymph nodes under my jaw on the left side (and temporarily the right and under chin to a lesser extent and also my left ear felt kinda weird inside...almost itchy) initally triggered by smoking (also somewhat bad oral hygene) that lasted about 2 1/2 months. After getting blood work done and having it come up clear the doc told me to do nothing and it was probably just an infection and to come back if it gets worse.
So i figured it might have to do with my teeth so I got them cleaned and it was still persisting for weeks after. I did a little more research and discovered my wisdom tooth on that bottom left side (which has been partialy emerged, half covered by gums for like 3years now) must be infected and bad bacteria could be lodged in-between the gums and tooth know as "Pericoronitis" as it hurt when I would push on that area of tooth/gum(but no other wisdom teeth fully covered by gums) and I didn't ask the dentist about it because I would never touch(or chew on it) and didn't notice it hurt when pushed on until after trying it and reading this -> https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pericoroniti
After stopping smoking and brushing my teeth alot more (especially that tooth/area) after meals and before I goto sleep (the past few weeks now) my lymphnodes are pretty much back to normal but tooth still hurts when pushed so to prevent it from infecting my lyphnodes again I'm getting my wisdom teeth out.
I should also mention I used Colloidal Silver the last week I was still feeling lymph swelling(holding it in my mouth near the tooth and dropped some in the left ear it was briefly affecting at the time... after cleaning them out of course)
The oral sergeon will usually perscribe an anti-biotic days before the surgery to get rid of the infection which should prevent a burden on your immune system to ensure proper healing post-op.
I have same symptoms: all on the left side...swollen lymph node, ear ache and sinus problems as well. Am on my second day of antibiotics ...scary to think they won't work but hoping they will. This could also be a viral infection and i guess they have antiviral meds to try.
Also get a lot of pressure on upper jaw left hand side. This also could be a tooth infection, although it doesn't hurt on the tooth I think could be infected. Smoking definitely is the cause and i've given it up, cold turkey.
I''ve had a swollen lymph node and throbbing earache for two days. Would hurt every 30 seconds if I didnt take pain meds. I took ibuprofen, then alternated ibuprofen and tylenol but it would only last 4 hours. I was told to take a decongestant to relieve the swelling in my ear. Worked wonders. Hasn''t hurt for almost 10 hours.
Same thing! I had some swelling under my tongue the day before. I woke up at 2am this morning with excruciating pain in my jaw, ear, teeth and when I looked in the mirror there was a massive lump under my jaw on the right side. I could hardly swallow and I felt like my ear drum was going to burst. Also, the right side under my tongue is swollen and very painful..more like a burning. I used warm compresses on my jaw and it's gone down a little. I'm hoping this isn't serious!
I think it relates, in most cases, to gums and teeth. I have a partially emerged wisdom tooth on my right bottom side and every time I forget to brush or mouthwash that side in the back, I eventually get the sore glands and inner ear on my right side. When I begin to brush after every meal and rinse with mouthwash, the pain slowly goes away and my ear gets better.
Other possibilities (BUT NOT ALL) could be:
Stone in salivary gland (I had on when I was younger and they had to cut it out from under my tongue)
CURED - Sudden earache coming from jaw area - mild sore throat, possible swollen glands, mild toothache on the same side. Sore neck on that side and moving my jaw side-to-side would make the earache a hundred times worse for a few seconds. I see so many people with the exact same problem so wanted to post what I did to make it go away. 1000mg 3xday Fishmox/amoxicillin for fishtanks (no prescription required) plus 600-800mg Ibuprofen 3xday. Took all at the same time (with food of course) and the whole thing got much less painful the next day and completely pain-free after three days. I'll probably need some acidophilus(?)real soon to ward off a yeast infection from all the antibiotics but I'm just extremely happy that it wasn't one of the horrible things I've read that are associated with this odd problem everybody seems to be having.
Did anyone ever find out what the problem is? I have really bad pain in my right ear. The lymph nodes on my right side right under my jaw towards my ear are swollen. My throat hurts as well and sometimes feels swollen and is painful. All of my symptoms are only on the right side. I am starting to get headaches now and I have a fever. I do not smoke or drink and am 20 years old. I'm so nervous. The internet keeps scaring me with the word cancer and to make things worse my grandfather died of lymphoma 20 years ago.
I have a swollen lymph node on my left side. My left ear felt like an ear infection was imminent. The left side of my face felt slightly warm and somewhat tender. But the worst part was the pain in my jaw and teeth that came in waves. The only thing that eventually seemed to give me relief was sipping cold water when the pain started. I went to the doctor, who prescribed antibiotics for the lymph node, but she said that the pain is possibly due to Trigeminal Neuralgia. Which is apparently a virus so there is no medication for it. I'd made an appointment with my dentist the day before and decided to keep it, even though I had the antibiotics and tentative diagnosis. Explained my symptoms to the dentist and, as soon as I mentioned about the cool water giving me immediate relief, he knew what it was. He calls it a blown nerve and explained that one of the nerves in one of my teeth had died and, when this happens, it released a gas which expanded and caused my issues. The cool water helped because it made the gas contract and relieved the surrounding pressure. He's cleaned it out and packed it with medicine pending root canal soon. Hope this helps someone.
