My daughter-in-law who is scheduled to deliver her daughter, due date June 12, was told that the baby may have swollen kidneys, but aren't sure. They think it is from her urine backing up. However, she can pee on her own and shows no other signs of anything. Could she maybe just have an infection? Is it totally serious?
Can it be treated by medicine after she is born?

I know from getting bladder and kidney infections that the doctor stated it is from urine backing up in the uretha.

What do you think? Rolling Eyes

Extremely eHealthy
There are different types of developing defects that cause a urinary tract obstruction, resulting in urine backing up and causing the ureters and kidneys to swell.
The swelling may be barely detectable or very noticeable.
This condition, especially when is affecting only one kidney, very rarely require immediate action.
Often the condition goes away without any treatment before birth or sometimes after.
If the condition is still present months after birth, the baby is usually given antibiotic therapy till the surgery isn't performed to solve the defect.

Best wishes!
