the lymph node behind my ear about 2 inches at the base of my skull is swollen and hurting me.

i went to teh doc monday afternoon and he said i have an infected lymph node and gave me keflex for 7 days. i'm on day 2.5 of the meds and my infection has gone down some but not totally. it's become hard to the touch and hot to the touch. i can barely lay my head on my pillow because it hurts if anything pushes on the infected area.

i'm miserable. dr appointment monday. he wants to see me after i finish my antibiotics. do i need to give it more time for the antibitics to do it's thing before i worry? is this something more serious??

i haven't been sick, besides swimmers ear about 2 weeks ago.

help me!! i don't want to have a biopsy if i don't have to. have panic attacks when it comes to blood or needles.

Lymph node
Don't know if you ever got an answer but there IS a relationship between the swimmner's ear and the node next to the ear....the infection in your ear was nicely collected by your lymph node. And YES they are quite painful. Sometimes and antibiotic can help if in fact the swimmer's ear was bacterial.

Better have it removed instead of letting it just stay there. There is nothing wrong with biopsy.
