Q: Swelling next to ear

Hi - I had a swelling on my face next to my ear that started on Saturday. I thought it was an insect bite but it just grew and grew. I went to the docs who referred me to A&E as my face was so big! They asked me if I'd ever had mumps, I said that I didn't know. They said that I had an infection of the salivary gland and gave me antibiotics.

Now - I have a 4 month old daughter who is currently away with the in-laws but is due to come back tomorrow and I want to make sure that it's not mumps that I have before she comes back.

My symptoms are:

Big, solid swelling on my jaw, next to my ear
My limbs are really aching - my arms especially - hurts to move them.
I seem to get fever in the evenings - my sleep is bad and I wake up drenched in sweat.
I find it painful to eat or open my mouth although I wouldn't say I have completely lost my appetite.

My doctor isn't back until Friday and I need to know whether to allow her back or not.

Thanks
