Q: Swelling and a fever
asked by: DoctorQuestion on September 17th, 2008
I have been having swelling in my throat, arms and now calves which is causing severe pain and fever. Doctors have done a full blood count and have found no irregularities. Was treated for a thyroid inflammation but the swelling has moved to the foot and calves. This is now moving to the knee. Can someone please assist in what could be causing this.

According to your symptoms (moving swelling and fever) you might be experiencing a kind of inflammation but I can't speculate about its real nature. Inflammation could be caused by an infection but I can't say which without further laboratory tests. An immune disorder like an allergy or autoimmunity can also cause similar symptoms. Thyroid gland inflammation (thyroididtis) is mainly an autoimmune disorder.

You may want to consult a rheumatologist or infectologist about your condition.
